The Care Giver/Med Tech role provides hands-on care and physical and emotional support to residents while maintaining a safe, home-like environment.
Responsibilities – Care Giver- Be responsible for a designated group of residents during the shift; know where their residents are and physically check on them throughout the shift.
- Observe, report, and document changes in residents’ condition (e.g., skin, behavior, alertness, weight, dietary intake, participation in activities).
- Respond promptly to security systems and resident call bells.
- Notify supervisor or Health Care Coordinator if a resident has increased care needs.
- Assist with continence management and dispose of continence products to maintain sanitation of resident suites and community restrooms.
- Serve and collect food trays and assist as needed; report refusals of meals or loss of appetite.
- Maintain cleanliness of residents’ rooms and work areas.
- Practice standard care precautions for cleanliness, hygiene, and health.
- Help residents maintain independence, promote dignity, and ensure physical safety.
- Assist with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, ambulation, transferring, eating) as instructed and encourage engagement in life skills and enrichment activities.
- Greet and assist all internal and external customers, guests, family members, residents, vendors, and team members.
- Perform resident laundry as assigned.
- Review service plan to learn pertinent information about residents.
- Assist/observe medications and treatments using the medication observation record and the Six Rights of Medication Pass.
- Document and initials forms as medications are given, including refusals or missed doses.
- Maintain confidentiality of all resident information including medication records.
- Report resident concerns to the Nurse or Health Care Coordinator during medication assistance.
- Restock medication cart after each pass.
- Assist in checking medication regardless of packaging system.
- Count narcotics with another Medication Care Manager or Nurse each shift.
- Maintain and clean the Medication Room, med charts, and treatment carts.
- Follow the refill process for medications.
- Participate in the development of the Service Plan and monthly updates.
- Take and record temperature, blood pressure, weight, pulse, and respiration rates.
- Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, sharps, and hazardous chemicals immediately.
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
- Certified Nurse’s Aide certification preferred.
- High School diploma or GED
- Must be 18 years of age
- CPR Certification preferred
- First Aid Certification preferred
- Previous experience working with seniors preferred
