Job Overview

The Cardiac Med Surg unit is located on the 6 South wing of the hospital. This 19 bed unit is part of a fast paced and very progressive cardiovascular service line. Job Highlights:
The Cardiac Med Surg unit is located on the 6 South wing of the hospital. This 19 bed unit is part of a fast paced and very progressive cardiovascular service line. We are seeking compassionate individuals who are passionate about delivering high-quality care and are ready to be a part of a dynamic and fulfilling work environment.

  • Schedule:

    2 shifts minimum per month. One weekend and one holiday per year.

Salary differential: $8.75 in addition to base wage plus night and weekend differentials.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.
  • Uses standards of medical-surgical nursing practice to increase the quality of care and quality of life for the patient, family, and significant others by evaluating the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.
  • Establishes effective relationships and serves as an advocate with the patient, family, and significant others to facilitate the care plan.
  • Uses the nursing process to develop and implement the plan of care, collect assessment data, determine diagnoses, identify outcomes, implement interventions, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Develops assessment and management strategies across physical, functional, cultural, social, economic, developmental, spiritual, vocational, and leisure dimensions.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the impact of illness on the patient’s status and responses.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with patients, families, communities, and inter-professional team to assess needs, set goals, plan interventions, provide care, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Communicates in a culturally sensitive, ethical, legal, holistic, informed, compassionate manner within resource constraints.
  • Educates patients and families about measures to promote, maintain, restore health or comfort.
  • Fosters a healthy work environment and mentors nursing colleagues, students, and others.
  • Applies evidence-based practice to medical-surgical nursing care aligned with age- and department-specific needs.
  • Maintains alertness and safe practice; may perform point-of-care testing per policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing or education equivalency for licensing.
Experience
  • No experience required.
Physical Requirements
  • Constant use of speech for communication; standing and walking.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects up to 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, reaching and keyboard use/data entry.
  • Visual and color discrimination abilities; ability to detect odors and hear alarms.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling 25-50 lbs; occasional lifting/moving of patients.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, and repetitive movements; occasional driving.
Licenses and Certifications

State-specific requirements by location:

  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) / or equivalent by state
