Senior Embedded Software Engineer

U.S. Citizenship Required | Clearance Eligible

A rapidly growing national security and advanced technology organization is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Systems Engineer to lead the architecture, development, and integration of mission-critical ISR software systems.

This is a high-impact technical leadership role focused on embedded real-time systems supporting defense and aerospace programs. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, lifecycle ownership experience, and the ability to operate in customer-facing environments.

Position Overview

This role is responsible for the architecture, design, development, and integration of complex ISR software systems. You will lead technical efforts across the full system lifecycle — from requirements definition through integration, test, and deployment.

You will work closely with systems engineers, program managers, and customers while mentoring development teams and driving critical technical decisions.

This position requires strong embedded systems experience, leadership capability, and comfort operating in highly regulated, performance-critical environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead software and system development, integration, and test activities
• Architect and design embedded real-time software systems
• Support system flight testing and performance analysis
• Analyze and document customer requirements and technical constraints
• Own major project phases and coordinate technical staff execution
• Drive system design decisions and resolve software/hardware integration challenges
• Prepare and present materials for design reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR, etc.)
• Interface directly with customers during technical reviews and integration efforts
• Mentor and guide engineering team members
• Support proposal development and technical solution planning

Required Qualifications

• 10–15 years of experience in embedded software or software systems engineering
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
• Strong development experience in C and C++ (Java knowledge a plus)
• Deep understanding of:
• Embedded real-time systems
• Object-oriented design principles
• Distributed systems concepts
• Experience across full software development lifecycle (requirements → verification)
• Experience leading software teams or major technical efforts
• Ability to travel up to 25% as required
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

• Active Top Secret (TS) or TS/SCI clearance
• Experience with ISR systems or signal processing
• Familiarity with REDHAWK, CUDA, JICD, TSDF, or similar frameworks
• Knowledge of secure software development and encryption principles
• Experience supporting flight test or fielded system integration
• Master’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science
