The Office of Management and Budget is currently recruiting an Accounting Technician I/II to join the Finance Department. This is a non-exempt position, represented by the Local 39 IUOE union. This position is in-office, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm.
Under immediate to general supervision, the Accounting Technician I/II performs responsible and difficult account entry and recordkeeping work in the maintenance of city financial accounts and records, and assists in the preparation of financial reports and analyses. Accounting Technician IIs may oversee, monitor, and/or direct the work of lower-level personnel.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThe Accounting Technician I (salary range M41: $56,162.28 - $71,144.70 annually) is the entry-level class in the technical Accounting Technician series. Under close supervision, incumbents initially perform routine accounting duties while learning City policies and procedures and becoming familiar with departmental systems and practices. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed under more general supervision. This class is flexibly staffed with Accounting Technician II (salary range M48: $66,625.53 - $84,399.22 annually), and incumbents may advance to the higher level after one year upon demonstrating proficiency that meets the required qualifications.
The Accounting Technician I/II differs from the lower-level Account Clerk class, in that the former involves accounting work that is more analytical and evaluative in nature, requiring a higher degree of independent judgment and the application of bookkeeping, technical, and basic accounting principles and practices. This differs from the higher-level Accounting Specialist class, in that the latter requires more in-depth knowledge and skills regarding billing and reconciliation, and uses a higher degree of independent judgment.
