Overview

Recovery Coordinator I — Full-Time — Flowood, Mississippi
Day Shift and/or Night Shift;
Position may also include weekend shift(s). Starting Pay: $19.50 per hour, eligible for overtime.

This position is responsible for providing surgical procurement and preservation of human eye tissue for transplantation, education, and research. All responsibilities are performed in compliance with ASN’s policies and procedures and in compliance with EBAA and FDA regulations. This position is also responsible for packing and shipping tissue for transplantation.

General Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Review donor information, Authorization, & Donor Risk Assessment Interview (DRAI).
  • Travel to and perform recovery services in designated areas within hospitals, funeral homes, and medical examiner facilities.
  • Review and evaluate available donor medical records on-site to determine preliminary donor suitability prior to recovery.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in surgical scrub techniques and maintain sterile practices while performing ocular tissue recovery.
  • Perform surgical recovery of ocular tissue from cadaveric donors for transplant, education, and/or research purposes, including drawing and/or obtaining blood samples for serological testing.
  • Conduct a thorough physical assessment of the donor.
  • Accurately enter recovery and donor data into the approved database for each recovered case.
  • Package recovered tissue according to established policies and procedures to ensure safe transport to the designated laboratory for processing.
  • Process, package, and ship donor blood samples/specimens per protocol to the designated reference laboratory for testing.
  • Receive incoming donor tissue, check it in, complete required data entry, and perform appropriate tissue labeling.
  • Perform development contact events consisting primarily of visits to hospital units, medical examiners, hospices, and other appropriate clinical partners to enhance ASN contacts with outside agencies.
  • Performance of duties may require varied work schedules/hours to provide necessary coverage for recovery services.
  • Attend mandatory clinical meetings, which may be scheduled outside of regular workdays or shifts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
