The Environmental Director will provide enterprise-wide leadership and technical direction for environmental engineering programs across Ergon's operating companies. This role ensures regulatory compliance, drives environmental excellence, and supports sustainable growth by integrating environmental engineering best practices into capital projects, operations, and long-term strategy.
The Director serves as the technical authority on environmental engineering matters, partnering closely with operations, legal, capital projects, and Sr. leadership to manage risk and advance Ergon's stewardship objectives.
Job Duties Key Competencies

- Lead and standardize environmental engineering practices across all Ergon business units and facilities.
- Provide technical oversight for environmental aspects of capital projects, expansions, and process changes.
- Establish engineering standards, design guidelines, and best practices related to environmental controls and systems.
- Lead, mentor, and develop environmental engineering staff and dotted-line resources across the organization.
- Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Capital Projects, EHS, and Supply Chain teams to integrate environmental considerations into decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g. air permits, water discharge permits, waste management, remediation).
- Proactively identify environmental risks and develop engineering-based mitigation strategies.
- Support regulatory agency interactions, inspections, audits, and enforcement actions as needed.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and engineering solutions to reduce emissions, waste, water usage, and environmental footprint.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering or science discipline
- 10+ years of progressive experience in environmental engineering within industrial, manufacturing, energy, refining, chemical, or related sectors
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. environmental regulations
- Demonstrated experience supporting large-scale operations/projects
