Sales Engineer

VDL Industries Gainesville is the 99th company in the VDL Groep and the first manufacturing facility established in the United States. Operating from a state-of-the‑art, 150,000 sq. ft. facility in Flowery Branch, Georgia, we specialize in laser cutting, metal forming, welding (MIG/TIG), milling and turning, electronic, clean room and general (cleanroom) assembly, quality control, and shipping.

The Sales Engineer is responsible for expanding the company’s client base, driving revenue growth, and ensuring long-term customer satisfaction. This position requires proven expertise in the job shop fabrication industry with a customer‑focused approach. The Sales Engineer will maintain and expand relationships with assigned clients, identify opportunities for growth, and serve as the primary point of contact to ensure customer needs are met while supporting the overall success of the company.

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing clients, understanding their needs and providing tailored solutions.
• Identify and pursue new business opportunities to expand the client base.
• Collaborate with the production and engineering teams to ensure customer requirements are met.
• Prepare and present sales proposals, quotes, and contracts of high-level assemblies with extended BoMs to clients.
• Monitor market trends and competitor activities to identify opportunities for growth.
• Provide exceptional customer service, addressing any issues or concerns promptly.
• Achieve sales targets and contribute to the overall growth of the company.
• Maintain client account plans to track interactions, opportunities, and sales activities.
• Provide commercial insight in cost modeling, including open book calculations, based on cost engineering input.

• Strong understanding of metal fabrication and (cleanroom) assembly processes and products.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
• An analytical mindset with the ability to build cost models and translate them into accurate quotations.
• Willingness to travel as needed.

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field
• 5 years of proven sales management experience, preferably within the job shop fabrication or manufacturing industry.
• Strong financial acumen with the ability to analyze sales data and market trends is preferred.
• Established network within the fabrication/manufacturing sector preferred.

  Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to travel regularly to customer locations, trade shows, and industry events.
• Ability to communicate clearly in person, via phone, and through written correspondence.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to concentrate and remain focused in an open office environment with potential distractions.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times (e.g., files, office equipment).
• Ability to move around the facility and occasionally visit production areas, which may include
• walking, standing, and exposure to shop floor conditions.
