Position: Cross Dock Warehouse Supervisor / Operations Lead - Tallahassee

Job Summary

We are seeking a hands‑on, reliable Cross‑Dock Warehouse Supervisor to lead daily operations at our cross‑dock facility. You will oversee efficient inbound/outbound freight flow with minimal storage, directly manage a team of 3 non‑CDL drivers (including scheduling work hours, handling PTO/absences, and hiring as needed), serve as a backup driver during coverage gaps, perform accurate driver check‑ins and paperwork submission, and ensure overall compliance, safety, and productivity in a fast‑paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all cross‑dock warehouse operations, including receiving inbound shipments, sorting/transloading freight, staging, and dispatching outbound loads with minimal to zero long‑term storage to maximize throughput and meet tight delivery windows.
  • Directly manage, coach, and supervise a team of 3 non‑CDL drivers: assign daily routes/tasks, monitor performance and safety, conduct regular check‑ins, address concerns, and provide feedback.
  • Manage driver work hours and scheduling: create and maintain shift schedules, approve time‑off requests (PTO, sick leave, etc.), track hours worked to ensure compliance with regulations and company policies, minimize overtime where possible, and adjust staffing to meet operational demands.
  • Lead hiring and staffing efforts for the driver team: identify staffing needs, recruit candidates, conduct interviews, make hiring recommendations, and support onboarding/training of new non‑CDL drivers to maintain full coverage.
  • Serve as a backup non‑CDL driver when regular drivers are out on PTO, sick, or unavailable—load/unload vehicles, complete delivery/pickup routes safely and on time (driving is occasional but essential for continuity).
  • Perform daily driver check‑ins: verify pre/post‑trip vehicle inspections, hours‑of‑service logs (if applicable), delivery/pickup documentation, and ensure all paperwork (bills of lading, proof of delivery, manifests, etc.) is accurate, complete, and submitted promptly to administration or customers.
  • Coordinate with carriers, vendors, and internal teams to schedule inbound/outbound trucks, resolve discrepancies, and maintain smooth dock flow.
  • Enforce safety protocols, conduct regular safety meetings, perform workplace inspections, and ensure full compliance with DOT regulations, company policies, and OSHA standards (especially for drivers and dock activities).
  • Monitor and report key performance metrics (on‑time delivery, dock turnaround, error rates, driver productivity); identify and implement process improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory movement, freight status, driver activities, and hours using warehouse systems or logs.
  • Assist with loading/unloading, sorting, staging, and other hands‑on tasks during peak periods or shortages.
  • Handle minor facility maintenance, housekeeping, and equipment checks to keep the cross‑dock clean, safe, and operational.
What We Offer
  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • Benefits package (health, dental, vision, 401(k) with employer match, paid time off—details provided upon application)
  • Opportunity to grow within a dynamic logistics operation
  • Supportive team environment with direct impact on daily success
Requirements Preferred Skills
  • Experience with driver route planning, work‑hour tracking, PTO management, and small‑team recruiting/hiring.
  • Familiarity with safety compliance, incident reporting, and performance evaluation processes.
  • Strong communication skills for team leadership, candidate interviews, and coordination with drivers/carriers.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or logistics/supply chain certification preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in warehouse, distribution, or logistics operations, with at least 1 year in a supervisory/lead role managing staff schedules and/or hiring.
  • Prior experience in a cross‑dock environment strongly preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; must be able and willing to operate non‑CDL vehicles (box trucks) as backup coverage.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, driver logs, transportation paperwork, and basic labor scheduling practices.
  • Proven leadership skills to supervise a small team, handle hiring/onboarding, resolve conflicts, and maintain high safety/performance standards.
  • Excellent organizational, multitasking, and detail‑oriented skills for accurate documentation and scheduling.
  • Proficiency with basic computer systems (email, spreadsheets, warehouse/driver management software).
  • Physical ability to lift 50–75 lbs repeatedly, stand/walk for extended periods, and work in a warehouse environment (varying temperatures).
  • Flexible availability, including early mornings, evenings, or occasional weekends to support operations, driver coverage, and scheduling needs.
