this position will perform minor maintenance and service work and repairs of equipment, operate a variety of small and medium equipment, perform maintenance on equipment, perform temporary traffic control (maintenance of traffic), and perform manual labor.

your specific responsibilities:

performs minor maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment operated and assists in the repairs of this equipment; checks and adds fluids, checks/adjusts brakes, maintains proper air pressure in all tires, etc. Cleans and washes equipment. Operates vehicles and a variety of small and medium equipment that may include, but not limited to front end loader, skid steer load, grader, lift equipment, small bulldozer and asphalt repair truck while performing bridge and roadway maintenance;

coordinates, participates, and directs the maintenance activity of the chemical herbicide program.

uses a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways. Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments with minimal supervision.

performs tree trimming, rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assists in the assembly and erection of highway signs.

performs temporary traffic control (maintenance of traffic). Assists with crew activity reports as needed.

the successful candidate will have the following required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

knowledge of:
  • mathematical calculations
  • standard safety rules and procedures.
skills in:
  • operating a variety of hand and power tools
  • operating and performing minor maintenance on small/medium equipment and vehicles.
ability to:
  • operate a variety of heavy equipment; read and understand job-related materials and fill out reports and forms;
