THE WORK YOU WILL DO

Equipment Operator - District Three / Ponce de Leon Maintenance. Perform minor maintenance and service work, operate a variety of small and medium equipment, maintain equipment, perform temporary traffic control and manual labor.

District Three – Ponce de Leon Operations Center / Ponce de Leon Maintenance 1723 Sunrise Circle Ponce de Leon, Florida 32455

YOUR SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain and service equipment, check and add fluids, adjust brakes, maintain tire pressure, and clean equipment.
  • Operate a variety of small and medium equipment including front end loader, skid steer, grader, lift equipment, bulldozer, and asphalt repair truck while performing bridge and roadway maintenance.
  • Use hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways.
  • Perform independent manual labor with minimal supervision.
  • Assist with tree trimming, rough carpentry, masonry, painting, and assembly of highway signs.
  • Perform Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) and assist with crew activity reports.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Mathematical calculations

  • Operating and performing minor maintenance on small/medium equipment and vehicles
  • Read and understand job-related materials and fill out reports and forms
  • Maintain and repair highways, bridges, and other structures
  • Communicate verbally and in writing; follow oral/written instructions
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships
  • Lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds; stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl, or bend frequently
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions and on various terrains at heights or in high volume traffic
  • Work independently; stand for an extended period of time
LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/REPORTING REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid Class “B” CDL with air brakes required at time of hire
  • Certify in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) – Intermediate Level within one year and maintain
  • All herbicide applicators licensed by the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs in core curriculum, right-of-way, and aquatics
  • Under direct supervision of a licensed applicator, employee may train and gain experience up to twelve months before licensure
OTHER JOB-RELATED REQUIREMENTS
  • Respond to emergencies when necessary
  • Ready to operate a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) or perform CMV safety-sensitive functions on a routine basis
  • Work with or around Department of Corrections inmates
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
