We’re seeking a hands‑on, working supervisor who leads by example while staying actively engaged in the field. This role provides direct supervision and guidance to a team of six Inspectors while also carrying a full workload of field inspection responsibilities, balancing leadership, collaboration, and day‑to‑day operational excellence.
What You’ll Do- Lead, support, and supervise a team of six Inspectors performing inspections of one‑ and two‑family dwellings.
- Conduct hands‑on field inspections of residential properties, including driving a City vehicle as part of daily duties.
- Provide effective leadership by conducting performance evaluations and making informed recommendations regarding hiring, promotions, transfers, and corrective actions.
- Collaborate with the Building Official, Deputy Building Official, and internal stakeholders to improve code enforcement processes and service delivery.
- Participate in section planning and develop budgetary recommendations in coordination with department and City leadership.
- Represent the Growth Management Department at trade and neighborhood organization meetings to support education, outreach, and community engagement.
- High School diploma or GED
- Ten (10) years of experience in work involving residential, industrial or commercial inspection, construction supervision, or design
- Three (3) years of supervisory experience in residential, industrial or commercial inspection, construction supervision, or design
Special Requirements
- Must meet one of the following at the time of appointment:
- Contractor registered with the State of Florida, meeting competency requirements
- Contractor certified by the State of Florida
- Architect or Engineer registered with the State of Florida
- Standard Building, Residential Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical Inspector license issued by the State of Florida
- Eligible for a Provisional Building, Residential Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical Inspector license issued by the State of Florida
- Individuals without a Standard Inspector license must obtain within one year of appointment:
- Standard Building, Residential Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical Inspector license
- Standard Building, Residential Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical Plans Examiner license
- Standard One‑and Two‑Family Inspector and Building Code Administrator license
- All other employees must obtain within one year of appointment:
- Standard Building, Residential Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical Plans Examiner license
- Standard One‑and Two‑Family Inspector and Building Code Administrator license
- Must possess a valid Class E State driver’s license
