About this roleAs a Skilled Trades Worker II
- Install, replace, repair, and modify mechanical and electrical equipment located on and within Public Utilities facilities, including, but not limited to, pumps, pump valves, regulators, actuators, control panels, communication systems, motor controls, electronic filtering, and switching systems.
- Document and maintain work orders, parts inventory, and safety records.
- Proficient in the operation of an electric multimeter, voltmeter, and megohmmeter, battery operator tools, hand tools, chainsaws, and other gas-powered equipment.
- Operate crane trucks to remove and install pumps from wet wells and other lift station maintenance activities.
- Read and follow color codes, wiring diagrams and schematics, blueprints, plans, and written instructions.

As a Skilled Trades Worker III
- Work performed as a Skilled Trades Worker II.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to Skilled Trades Workers II.
- Monday – Friday
- 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
- On-Call Required.
Skilled Trades Worker II: Starting Pay: $22.14 (Step
1) Potential higher pay (steps) for those with multiple years of experience.
- High School Diploma or its equivalent.
- Three (3) years of experience in applicable trades which include work in the water/wastewater collection field and/or experience performing pump, valve, or hydraulic system repair and maintenance including electrical troubleshooting and repairs.
- The ability to acquire a Class A CDL with air brake endorsement within six (6) months at the time of hire. Paid for by Sarasota County!
- Valid Florida Driver's License at the time of hire.
Skilled Trades Worker III: Starting Pay: $24.42 (Step
1) Potential higher pay (steps) for those with multiple years of experience.
- High School Diploma or its equivalent.
- Six (6) years of experience in applicable trades which include work in the water/wastewater collection field and/or experience performing pump, valve, or hydraulic system repair and maintenance including electrical troubleshooting and repairs.
- The ability to acquire a Class A CDL with air brake endorsement within six (6) months at the time of hire. Paid for by Sarasota County!
- Valid Florida Driver's License at the time of hire.
Physical Demands: Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
