Welding WORKER Security Clearance

Responsibilities

• Weld in all positions using electric arc or gas welding processes; may perform flame cutting.
• Work with various metals and alloys of differing sizes, shapes, and thicknesses for the construction, repair, and maintenance of submarines, ships, utilities, and facilities.
• Lay out work from blueprints, specifications, or oral instructions and read/follow written technical work instructions such as TWDs, TGIs, URELs, PI's, etc.
• Operate multiple types of electrical arc‑welding and cutting equipment—including gas‑metal‑arc, gas‑tungsten‑arc, submerged‑arc, manual‑metal‑arc welding, plasma‑arc cutting, brazing, and flame cutting—by manual or semi‑automatic methods.

• Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
• Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
• New employees to the Department of the Navy must successfully pass the E‑Verify employment verification check.
• Males born after 12‑31‑59 must be registered for Selective Service.
• Must be required to successfully complete a pre‑appointment physical examination.
• Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty; failure to maintain the required level of clearance may result in withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
• Successful completion of a pre‑employment drug test (including marijuana) is required; the offer may be rescinded if the test fails or the appointment is missed.
• Must wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes continuously during the work shift.
• This position may require travel from the normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS, including remote or isolated sites, and may involve military or commercial aircraft for extended periods.
• Must be able to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements; overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
• Incumbent must also be able to maintain an IT‑II designation.
• Ability to receive assignments of the welding trade under the guidance of a journeyman welder or welder instructor for the purposes of developing and increasing proficiency in the use and demonstration of welding trade methods and techniques.
• Ability to assist the journeyman welder by adjusting equipment controls and positioning work pieces prior to flame cutting or welding operations.
• Ability to preheat items and conduct flame heat‑treating operations as required for the job assignment, such as brazing, soldering, and metal surface building.
• Ability to operate simple welding trade‑related machines to perform assigned job tasks.
• Ability to observe and obey fire safety and prevention rules and regulations and use precautions against fire for personal and shop safety.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and work orders related to the welding trade.
• Ability to select the methods, machines, materials, and when needed the jigs and fixtures commonly used to complete the assigned work.

Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work conducted through National Service programs.
