Position: General Trades Technician (Panama City Campus)

General Trades Technician (Panama City Campus)

Location: Panama City, FL

Employment Type: Full-Time, Regular

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for yard work, inspections, preventative and repair maintenance to ensure all buildings, grounds, and equipment are in safe operating conditions.
  • Responsible for maintenance of groundskeeping, landscaping, irrigation system, campus roadways, and parking areas.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and repair of building maintenance, which consists of painting, drywall, carpentry, A/C systems, electrical systems, including water and sewer lines, doors and windows, gas and electric welding, and soldering as needed.
  • Generates and responds to emails and work orders via the online work order system. Updates work order system daily regarding progress and/or upon completion of assignment.
  • Assists with set-ups for special functions on and off campus.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience, or a combination of post-high school education and experience equal to two years. (A technical or vocational degree may substitute for experience.)
  • A valid State of Florida or Georgia Driver’s License or the ability to obtain prior to hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical or vocational training in facilities maintenance, construction, HVAC, plumbing, or electrical trades.
  • Experience working in higher education, healthcare, or large-scale public facilities.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 General Industry Safety Certification.
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely.
  • Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting abilities. Experience reading work orders, blueprints, or maintenance manuals.
  • Reliable, self‑motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team. Good communication and record‑keeping skills. Notes where maintenance or repair is required and reports any problems to supervisors.
Training and Onboarding
  • Participate in guided training sessions on university equipment, facilities, and standard operating procedures.
  • Shadow experienced staff to learn daily workflows and preventative maintenance practices.
  • Gain an understanding of department safety protocols and compliance requirements.
  • Take on progressively more independent assignments with ongoing support and feedback.
  • Establish strong working relationships with team members and campus partners.

By the end of the first 90 days, the technician is expected to be confident in navigating campus facilities, performing routine maintenance tasks, and contributing independently to the department’s work while continuing to develop advanced skills.
