Position Summary

The Gas Meter Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of gas meters and related equipment. This role ensures the safe and efficient operation of gas metering systems, adhering to company standards, industry regulations, and safety protocols.

Essential Functions
  • Install, inspect, test, and maintain residential, commercial, and industrial gas meters.
  • Perform routine checks and calibration of gas metering equipment to ensure accuracy.
  • Diagnose and repair faulty gas meters and related devices.
  • Replace defective parts or entire units when necessary.
  • Adhere to safety protocols while working with gas systems to prevent leaks or hazards.
  • Identify and address potential safety risks, escalating issues when needed.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and service requests in a professional manner.
  • Provide guidance on proper meter usage and safety practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and maintenance activities.
  • Assist with emergency response situations, such as gas leaks or outages.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development programs.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in gas systems preferred.
  • Prior experience in gas meter installation, maintenance, or a related field is a plus.
  • Knowledge of gas metering systems and related tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and safety regulations.
  • Proficient in basic mathematics for calibration and meter testing.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Detail oriented, excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
