HVAC Tech / Heating Engineer, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic

Overview
An HVAC Technician, or a Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Technician, installs and repairs various air quality systems. Their main duties include locating and diagnosing maintenance problems on equipment, conducting warranty services and quickly performing emergency repairs on certain equipment items. Operate, maintain and repair all equipment used for heating, ventilation and air conditioning of college building equipment. This includes operations of a central heating plant utilizing steam and/or hot water for tempering or heating building, and a central chilled water plant to provide cooling to all buildings.
Provides excellent customer service to create a comfortable environment in which to study, teach and learn on campus. Learn locations of all HVAC equipment and how they relate to each building. Maintain and repair all HVAC equipment and components to manufacturer s recommendation, i.e. valves, motors, belts, bearings, filter, and lubrication, etc. Must know how to prepare boilers for State inspection, including any refractory work, cleaning and installing new seals on shell of boiler and water side inspection ports.
Must be able to replace bearings and seals on centrifugal pumps, change bearings on fan systems, motors and pumps shafts. Need to be able to run the Boiler plant and Chiller plants to maintain system temperatures and equipment runtimes through the Metasys systems and Auto-Flame. Must be familiar with cooling tower operations and repair potential problems. Must be able to service, install, repair and replace refrigeration systems including split systems, chillers packaged units, etc.
Works with outside vendors, engineers and consultants on projects affecting HVAC systems on buildings. Must be able to create, manage and perform preventative maintenance service schedules for all aspects of the HVAC systems. Installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including diagnosing malfunctions, replacing worn parts, performing routine inspections, and ensuring proper system functionality while adhering to safety regulations and local codes.

- A high school diploma or GED
- A valid HVAC license
- EPA Universal Certified
- 5 years Commercial Refrigeration/HVAC/R
- Level 2 Intermediate Plumbing Diploma is preferred
- Level 3 Advanced Plumbing Diploma is desirable
