Job Summary

Assist journeyman in the planning, lay‑out, installation, testing and repair of wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, motors, equipment and control systems in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Learn to use appropriate hand (i.e. drill, screwdriver) and power tools (i.e. pipe threader, conduit bender) to properly assist electrician in performing duties, including measuring, cutting, bending wire and conduit, drilling holes, pulling wiring, and assisting in lifting, positioning, and fastening objects such as wiring, conduit, and motors.
  • Perform minor repairs, such as replacing fuses, light sockets, bulbs, and switches.
  • Maintain tools and equipment and keep supplies and parts in order; disassemble, repair and reassemble defective electrical equipment such as motors.
  • Load, transport, unload, and furnish electrician with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Clean work area and restock supplies and materials as necessary.
  • Help install all other related items in accordance with the applicable plans and specifications; perform other routine duties as directed by experienced craft worker.
  • Participate in all safety related processes and programs as requested; engage with work team to ensure zero injuries; watch for hazards and report concerns to supervisor or safety professional.
  • Use stop‑work authority when necessary; report all accidents and near misses to supervisor and participate in investigation process.
  • Participate in pre‑job work planning and safety discussions; identify hazardous conditions and take corrective action to eliminate or mitigate hazards.
  • Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices.
  • Support and follow lockout/tag‑out procedures; attend site‑specific training and follow all procedures as outlined in training.
  • Use effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate work with other crafts and co‑workers.
  • Produce quality work meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.
  • Read and understand plans and specifications, including one‑line diagrams, cable and conduit schedules, ladder diagrams, P & 's, and loop diagrams.
  • Visualize drawings in three dimensions; assist journeyman in planning, lay‑out, diagram, install and/or repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment.
  • Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Notify supervision of any hazards and utilize safety stop‑work authority as needed; examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems and cost‑saving measures.
  • Ensure construction equipment is correctly operated, maintained and in good working order; complete daily equipment inspections.
  • Comply with company code of conduct and jobsite policies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • NCCER Construction Craft Laborer NCCER Core Curriculum or equivalent Craft Training Program.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience working as an electrician or similar craft as a helper or laborer, and a basic knowledge of the electrical craft.
  • Developing knowledge in the installation or maintenance of electrical wiring, conduit, systems, equipment and fixtures; testing electrical systems with appropriate tools; familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • If applicable, must have all necessary licenses for the jurisdiction in which the work is performed.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Must have all necessary tools (see Electrician helper tool list).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
