BASE PAY RATE: $20.33 PER HOUR / $42,286.40 ANNUAL

FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT HOURLY (+OVERTIME)

UTILITY WORKER I: $20.33 PER HOUR $42,286.40 YEARLY

UTILITY WORKER II: $21.60 PER HOUR $44,928.00 YEARLY

UTILITY WORKER III: $24.38 PER HOUR $50,710.40 YEARLY

SENIOR UTILITY WORKER/EQUIPMENT OPERATOR: $27.52 PER HOUR $57,241.60 YEARLY

Job Summary:

Utility laborer; assists in the construction and maintenance of gas distribution and transmission lines.

Incumbents in this position will be held to the District's Gold Standard for Customer Service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Incumbent will execute and/or assist in the completion of the following tasks:

1. Excavates for and installs service lines and main extensions: digs trenches with a shovel, pulls pipe through trench, backfills trench manually to cover pipe. Uses jack hammer to remove concrete and asphalt.

2. Repairs lines: digs-up broken line and bends over pipe to make repairs.

3. Welds polyethylene pipe and taps: makes connections on pipe to join pipe.

4. Kills lines: dig-up service or main and cap line.

5. Cleans equipment, loads materials, hooks-up heavy equipment, etc.

6. Must be able to safely and responsibly operate the automotive vehicle assigned. Must maintain assigned vehicle through appropriate operator maintenance and by keeping said vehicle clean and neat at all times.

7. Maintains tools and equipment in prescribed manner.

8. Maintains control of inventory items obtained from stock or carried on truck.

9. May be required to respond to gas leak calls and perform repairs when needed.

10. May be responsible for the safe operation of all heavy equipment including but not limited to: frontend loaders, backhoes, excavators and bobcats.

11. Maintains operator qualifications and completes computer-based training and performance evaluations through the Onboard LMS.

12. Other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School plus zero to two years of experience.

  • TECHNICAL

    SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Must possess and maintain valid Florida driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the District and its insurers.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade; skill in performing routine manual labor.
  • Capability to perform construction and demolition using jackhammer; to dig trenches or pits; to load and unload materials and/or equipment at job site.
  • Skill in use of materials and/or equipment in assigned area.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
  • Basic data entry and/or word processing skills.
  • Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
  • OTHER FACTORS:
  • Must be appropriately dressed in a clean and neat District authorized uniform during work hours.
  • May be required to work other than normal work schedules.
  • May be required to work overtime with little notice
  • Physical Effort:
    Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work/exertion is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
  • Working Conditions and Hazards:
    Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment. Work involves considerable exposure to elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • DRUG TESTING FOR ILLEGAL DRUGS:
    Employees in this classification will be subject to undergo testing for illegal drugs in accordance with DOT Pipeline Safety Regulations, Code of Federal Regulation, Title 40 (49 CFR), Part 199.
