Automotive Equipment Mechanic Duties:The incumbent in this position must be able to work unsupervised for a good portion of the workday. Must be able to work in a field environment with no structured maintenance facility. This will mean extreme care must be taken to prevent injuries and a good working knowledge of expedient work procedures is necessary. Reports daily to the White Springs Maintenance Shop Supervisor.
Although incumbent is assigned to the White Springs Maintenance Shop, the overall maintenance of the fleet is paramount.
Performs major and minor repairs on all types of equipment to include repairs to both gasoline and diesel-powered equipment systems such as fuel systems, cooling systems, drive and hydraulic systems on equipment, light, medium and heavy-duty trucks, as well as other automotive vehicles. Repairs power trains, transmissions, clutches, air and hydraulic braking systems and suspension systems on all types of equipment.
Acts in implementation and constant review of the preventive maintenance program. Provides continuous instruction to officers and supervisors in the proper operation of equipment. Responsible for the quality of all preventive maintenance services provided.
Makes preparations to perform all repairs in the field environment under adverse weather conditions as dictated by situation. Makes preparations to deploy to other areas for up to two weeks during extreme fire conditions, natural disasters, and other situations as deemed necessary.
Uses specialized tools and diagnostic equipment to diagnose drivability and performance problems of equipment assigned to the Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement (OALE) Maintenance Shop as needed.
Accurately prepares work orders for all work performed and follows up to completion for an accurate account of all parts, labor and materials used.
Initiates, prepares, and completes P-card purchases for parts and supplies as per OALE and Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) purchasing rules.
Ensures all work performed is properly documented for accountability of all parts and supplies. Responsible for the accountability of all tools, test equipment, parts, and supplies used in the daily performance of duties.
Studies technical publications, specifications, and repair procedures. Completes all training deemed appropriate for position. Seeks self-improvement through classes, seminars, etc., that are job related.
Responsible for maintenance and repair on vehicles assigned to other FDACS divisions such as Marketing and the Office of Inspector General.
Performs other related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications:- High School graduate or GED.
- Six (6) months of major and minor repairs on all types of equipment to include repairs to both gasoline and diesel vehicles.
- Certificate of completion from a technical school for automotive/heavy equipment repair can substitute for the required experience.
- This position requires you to possess a valid driver’s license.
- ASE certification.
- Experience with wiring emergency response vehicles.
- Experience with maintaining emergency response vehicle.
The OALE selection process takes approximately three to four months to complete. Steps to complete the selection process include, but are not limited to:
- A completed State of Florida Employment Application.
- A completed Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement Civilian Supplemental Application.
- Oral Review Board.
- Drug Screening.
