firearm eligibility/firearm purchase program position summary

under the direct supervision of the manager i within the firearm purchase program (fpp), this position is responsible for the review and analysis of criminal history records to determine eligibility for the purchase and possession of firearms as authorized by florida statute. This position must meet and maintain national crime information center (ncic)/ florida crime information center (fcic) certification as required and is responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of data housed within department databases.

duties

& responsibilities
  • reviewing, evaluating, and processing requests by phone and in the firearm eligibility system (fes) queue from licensed firearm dealers to screen potential buyer’s eligibility to purchase a firearm;
  • entering potential firearm buyer’s information received by the automatic call distribution (acd) line accurately into fes in accordance with the fpp evaluator training manual;
  • evaluating requests by reviewing customer demographics in fes in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner and processes transactions in accordance with the fpp evaluator training manual;
  • evaluating requests by analyzing criminal justice information in fes in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner and processes transactions in accordance with the fpp evaluator training manual;
  • assisting with the monitoring of operational activities to ensure compliance with agency policies/procedures, program requirements, state and federal laws, and operational goals. Makes practical recommendations and provides appropriate documentation and support for ensuring that programs are in compliance;
  • answering customer service line to provide assistance to firearm dealers and citizens in a professional, courteous, and calm manner at all times;
  • answering dealer line as needed and enters potential firearm buyer’s information accurately into fes received by the acd line in accordance with fpp evaluator training manual;
  • contacting local, state, and federal agencies by means of telephone or written correspondence to obtain complete information necessary to determine a firearm buyer’s eligibility;
  • conducting post transaction research and routes cases to proper research unit as needed; and
  • evaluating cases to ensure all required information has been entered and routed in accordance with the fpp operations manual.
knowledge, skills & abilities
  • knowledge of the criminal justice system;
  • knowledge of office and administrative principles and practices;
  • knowledge of the methods of data collection;
  • >knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication;
  • knowledge of the fcic/ncic, iii, cch, and nics information systems;
  • knowledge of customer service etiquette and ability to apply it effectively;
  • ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
  • ability to read and interpret law enforcement data, florida statutes, commission rules, and divisional policy and procedures;
  • ability to use internal and external resources to perform research; and
  • ability to develop and apply instructional curriculum to train others in the use of law enforcement data.

base salary
