Florida A&M University's Facilities, Planning, Construction and Safety Department is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Coordinator, Environmental Health and Safety vacancy.
Responsibilities- Functions as a Coordinator, Environmental Health & Safety (with a working title of Industrial Hygiene Specialist) in Florida A&M University's Environmental Health & Safety Department.
- The responsibilities of this position necessitates the ability to respond to emergency situations outside regular business hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Responsible for the overall direction and management of safety and security procedures at all Housing facilities.
- Performs proactive IAQ assessments and works with maintenance to address any abnormal conditions.
- Responds to any housing IAQ concerns expressed by faculty, staff or students and facilitates corrective actions.
- Develops and implements health and safety programs.
- Trains Resident Assistants, Resident Directors and other staff members to manage, inspect and mitigate indoor air quality issues.
- Monitors to completion any required corrective actions, post assessments and follow-ups.
- Facilitates and conducts sanitization and clean‑up efforts.
- Facilitates asbestos and lead‑based paint assessments.
- Facilitates asbestos abatement for housing facilities.
- Coordinates disposal of hazardous waste material in a safe manner.
- Serves as safety officer on housing facility renovations, demolitions and projects.
- Investigates innovative and cost effective methods for maintaining appropriate indoor air quality conditions.
- A bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.
- Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization.
- Knowledge of OSHA and NFPA safety standards.
- Knowledge of hazardous response practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations.
- Skills in performing safety inspections.
- Skills in problem solving.
- Skills in preparing reports, policies, correspondence and other written documentation.
- Ability to understand and interpret policies and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and respond to emergencies.
- Master's degree in Biological Science, Engineering Science & Technology, or other related area of specialization.
- Or a bachelor's degree in Biological Science, Engineering Science & Technology, or other related area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.
Salary is Negotiable.
Licenses and CertificationsCertified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Must Obtain CIH within Two Years of Being Hired;
Must Have Valid Driver's License
This is an Administrative and Professional (A&P) position.
