The Work You Will Do

Crash Records and Records Technician / Engineering and Operations / State Safety Office

Perform and oversee the performance of the location processing for crash records involving traffic fatalities. Conduct quality control of fatal crash location coordinates and crash data. Report fatal crash location information regularly to District Safety Offices, assist in district safety management, and submit data to FLHSMV for FARS.

Your Specific Responsibilities

This is paraprofessional engineering work performing complex technical assignments in maintenance and application of traffic crash data and crash location reference information. Under the direction of the Crash Records and Research Administrator, the technician conducts research and retrieves historical Florida Traffic Crash Report data for departmental and other governmental requests, assists with responses to public records requests, and maintains a log of crash data requests.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform and oversee location processing for crash records involving traffic fatalities.
  • Conduct quality control of fatal crash locations and crash data.
  • Report location information regularly to District Safety Offices and FLHSMV for FARS.
  • Maintain accurate historical crash records and statistical information for safety analysis and project development.
  • Prepare correspondence for transmittal of crash data to FDOT offices and draft correspondence for review and supervisor’s signature for outside requestors.
  • Assist supervisors in managing and reviewing contractor work group, supporting workflow, productivity, and accuracy.
  • Assist crash locators in locating difficult crashes and interpreting RCI, SLD, and other roadway information.
  • Provide technical support to staff using State Safety Office crash data systems, identify enhancements, correct errors, and test implementations.
  • Support professional engineering personnel in obtaining and reviewing statistical reports from State Safety Office databases.
  • In absence of other supervisors, provide supervision for all Transportation Safety contract employees.
The Successful Candidate Will Have the Following Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
