About Our Job
This position is responsible for professional and public contact work in coordinating the overall negotiations and acquisitions of real property interests for Sarasota County Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) and Non-CIP projects.
Job DescriptionAcquire land and rights in land by donation, purchase and condemnation, coordinate acquisition activities with the County Attorney’s Office. Prepare legal documents and files required for acquisition of land and condemnation proceedings, petitions for vacations or requests for terminations or modifications of County interests, exchanges and disposal of surplus property under the guidance of a supervisor.
Assist with research and maintaining inventory information on County owned property.
Maintain detailed files of the negotiation history of each parcel of land, coordinate settlement activities, prepare legal and payment documents and record and file all documents.
Review construction plans and recommend alternatives to reduce acquisition costs and prepare reports based on projected costs vs. actual costs with assistance from supervisor. Assist in estimating acquisition costs for assigned project and develop critical event tracking information and/or charts.
Assists in hiring of professional services, review and approval all their work products and track payment of invoices under the guidance of a supervisor.
Prepare reports and deliver presentations to the general public.
Perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned by supervisor which may include but are not limited to:
Educational and personal development training classes, County fairs/expos and other committee activities that may be required to perform duties of an Acquisition Agent.
Work Hours:
Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Minimum Qualifications:An Associate’s Degree with major course work in real estate and title law and three (3) years experience in land acquisition, title examination and/or searches, real estate law, appraisal field or other related fields. Progressively responsible experience can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college degree. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License may be required. Certified notary within the first three (3) months of employment may be required.
Job Competencies:Florida Department of Transportation right-of-way acquisition training, educational classes offered by International Right-of-Way Association, classes pertaining to researching chain of title, &/or other comparable training classes. Working knowledge of computers and word processing programs, ability to effectively negotiate complex rights to land acquisitions, knowledge to accurately review title searches and appraisal reports, and good verbal and written communication skills.
