Position SummaryThe Property Maintenance Ranger is responsible for ensuring the safety and cleanliness of all council properties as assigned by the director of property and/or senior-level council management. The Ranger also provides support to all site‑user groups and staff, ensuring that council regulations and procedures are observed and followed. Responsibilities include overall maintenance and upkeep of all council properties including program areas, buildings, structures, grounds, vehicles, equipment, roads, and trails.
The Ranger will utilize established property management and maintenance systems to maintain facilities in a safe, clean, and usable condition while preserving natural resources. The Ranger works with council program staff, outside vendors, contractors, volunteers, and service providers, ensuring safety and security for all visitors. Adherence to all safety standards and guidelines set forth by Federal, State, Local, Department of Health, Division of Forestry, American Camping Association, and GSC is required.
- Provide information, check‑in/check‑out, and necessary support and security to all site‑user groups, adapting to the needs of various groups such as troop camping, council events, day camp, resident camp, and outside user groups.
- Provide ground maintenance and janitorial service for the camp.
- Assist with maintenance needs of other Girl Scout facilities as required.
- Assist with plans to maintain property or properties and its facilities, including waterfront access, pool, roads, trails, vehicles, and equipment, ensuring safe, usable operating conditions and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Ensure facilities, including kitchens, lodges, unit houses, cabins, and restrooms, are routinely cleaned and sanitized to meet GSCC and Department of Health standards.
- Maintain appropriate documentation in the GSUSA Property Management System and routinely submit all required written reports (task lists and receipts) to meet schedules assigned by the Director of Property.
- Participate in supervisory conferences, staff meetings, and/or programs as scheduled and support teamwork throughout the organization.
- Maintain appropriate communications with the Head Ranger and other staff/volunteers to keep them abreast of unplanned or unusual activities or events that impact the properties.
- Work on Saturdays and/or Sundays and evenings as scheduled by the Head Ranger.
- Other duties may be assigned by the Director of Property.
- Periodically travel to scout houses for routine maintenance or projects.
The Property Maintenance Ranger may reside in on‑site housing provided by the council. The council covers the cost for electricity, water, and internet. Rangers agree to appropriately maintain the home in a livable, clean condition. Every adult who lives in the home must be named as a tenant and agree to the limitations set forth. Every adult must also successfully complete a level‑2 background check.
The cost of the background check for the Ranger is covered by the council; all other adults must cover their own background check costs.
Occupancy of council ranger housing is restricted to the Camp Ranger, his/her spouse, minor children, and immediate adult family members who are disabled. The ranger housing agreement runs month‑to‑month, and the property must be vacated within 30 days following the ranger’s voluntary or involuntary termination of employment as a Property Maintenance Ranger.
Home‑based business conducted by the Ranger and/or other tenants must not conflict with Ranger duties. Business traffic will not be allowed on property, and all local, state, and national zoning and licensing regulations must be followed.
Two pets are allowed and must be properly secured at all times. Documentation of all pets must be submitted to council and should include breed and proof of current vaccinations.
