Overview
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct nursing care to the residents and supervises the day-to-day activities performed by the Nursing Assistants. The LPN is responsible for carrying out the physicians’ orders, including, but not limited to:
Medication administration, treatments and resident assessments. Additionally, the LPN communicates changes in the resident’s condition to the physician, the Unit Director and the resident’s responsible party. The LPN is responsible for maintaining medical record information as described by unit and facility policy. The LPN works with multiple departments and outside agencies to promote continuity of care for each resident.
- The LPN provides direct nursing care, supervises Nursing Assistants, carries out physicians’ orders, administers medications, performs treatments and resident assessments, and communicates changes in resident condition to appropriate parties while maintaining medical records per policy and coordinating with multiple departments and outside agencies to ensure continuity of care.
- Education:
Graduate of accredited school of nursing. - Experience:
1 year preferred with long term care. - Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:
Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an LPN in Florida;
Current Florida Basic Life Support certification. - Specialized Knowledge and
Skills:
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Ability to interact tactfully with residents, family members, visitors, physicians, staff from multiple departments, agencies, and the public. Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, procedures, and applicable laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to long-term care. Leadership and supervisory ability; ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
Patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, enthusiasm, and willingness to handle difficult residents and families. Willingness to adopt new methods and integrate them into nursing practice. Ability to relate information concerning a resident’s condition. Not pose a direct health or safety threat in the workplace. Knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care as defined by job responsibilities and performance standards, including patient safety standards for the identified population served.
