Overview
The North Florida/South Georgia Jacksonville VA Healthcare System's Mental Health Service is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) to contribute to quality care standards and the growth of a VA academic hospital program. Basic Requirements- All applicants must meet the following basic qualifications

Must be a US Citizen - English Language Proficiency:
In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) - no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless proficient in basic written and spoken English - Education:
A post-master s certificate or master s or doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner from a school of professional nursing - (Transcripts Required) The education must be accredited by one of the following accrediting organizations at the time the program was completed: ACEN or CCNE
- In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing programs - the nurse practitioner degree equivalency must be validated through an Agency recognized degree equivalency evaluation agency (e.g., ICD)
- Applicants with equivalent NP master s or doctorate level degrees who possess current, full, active and unrestricted registration and certification will meet the requirement for appointment
- License:
Active, current, full and unrestricted APN license to practice as an NP in a State/Territory/Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia - (Copy of NP License Required) NP Board Certification:
Must possess and maintain full and current board certification as an NP in Psychiatric Mental Health - The certification must be in one of the following certifying bodies: ANCC, AANPCB, or other nationally recognized certifying body in the area in which the NP is prepared
- (Copy of NP Certification Required) Grandfathering Provision:
Current VHA 0610 series APN employees performing the described duties as of 1/29/2024 are considered to have met qualification requirements - Preferred Experience and Certifications - Grade Determinations: NP grade level is based on education and experience
- NP II - Leadership in delivering and improving holistic care; clinical practice, outcome focus, leadership, professional development, professionalism/collegiality
- NP III - Leads with leadership and management of complex care; education/experience; professional development; teamwork and communication
Position includes physical duties typical of advanced practice nursing, such as physical assessment, long periods of standing/walking, and other activity; examples include standing and safe patient handling and mobility.
Duties- This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP)
- As a Licensed Independent Provider, the NP practices autonomously and coordinates with healthcare professionals
- Provides a wide range of health care services including diagnosis and management of acute, chronic, and complex health problems, health promotion, disease prevention, health education, and counseling
- Communicates effectively as a team player and adapts to the needs of a growing medical center
- Uses advanced clinical judgment to provide evidence-based diagnosis and treatment to Veterans with psychiatric conditions, including psychotropic medications, psychotherapy, and other modalities
- Provides patient and family education and counseling on medical/MH conditions, health promotion, preventive measures, and prescribed treatments
- Collaborates with MH and specialty care professionals; involves Veterans and families in treatment plan development
- Assesses and adjusts the plan of care to achieve optimal outcomes
- Counsels and treats patients with psychiatric and substance use disorders
- Orders and interprets labs, tests, and diagnostic studies; initiates referrals and consults to specialty services
