Work is a full-time, in-office position. This position primarily works in the Tuberculosis (TB) and Communicable Disease program and may be assigned to any clinic location or program within the Florida Department of Health in Citrus County. Successful completion of a urine drug screen is a condition of employment.

• Provide comprehensive public health nursing services and case management in TB and Communicable Disease programs using the public health nursing process.
• Perform public health level assessment of health status and health care needs of individuals, families, and/or groups in settings such as clinics, schools, hospitals, homes, and other public/community facilities.
• Deliver direct patient care along with in-depth teaching and physical assessment aimed at prevention, promotion, and maintenance of optimal health.
• Work under the direction and guidance of the Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor.
• Possess access to medical records and Social Security numbers; have computer access to HMS and Florida Shots immunization program; access to secured areas and prescription medications; comply with Confidentiality, Security policies, and trainings.
• Enter time in People First and EARs according to policy; complete required trainings within time frames.
• Perform duties related to TB, Communicable Diseases, and Immunizations including but not limited to case management, screening/testing, contact tracing, interviews, DO Therapy, surveillance, education, patient assessment, documentation in HMS and other systems, scheduling, and referrals.

• Knowledge of epidemiologic principles and practices related to public health surveillance, case investigation, outbreak detection, and disease control.
• Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and techniques; health promotion and disease prevention; immunization practices and infection control.
• Knowledge of case management skills and investigative/interview techniques.
• Skills in computer programs and electronic health records; ability to perform patient interviews in sensitive situations; ability to conduct physical assessments; ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work; ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to participate in planning and implementing treatment; to work with patients with diverse physical, social, or emotional problems; to observe reactions to medications; to investigate and report communicable disease cases, outbreaks or unusual prevalence.
• Ability to consult with physicians, hospitals, schools, and community groups; provide customer services; utilize applicable systems; and provide education programs related to communicable disease control.
• Knowledge of essential medical equipment.

Minimum:

• Florida Statute Reference: Chapter 464, eligible to practice nursing in accordance with FL Admin. Code 210-8.22 or 8.27.
• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Florida.
• Responsible for securing designated information sets to protect confidentiality and data integrity; appropriate access controls for both hard copy and electronic information.
• Must maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.
• Must be willing to undergo fit testing.

Preferred:

• TB and Communicable Disease experience; infection control certification.
