Job PurposeThe Q.A. Tech is responsible for implementing QA policies as directed by the Q.A. Supervisor. This includes ensuring compliance across processes and systems. The scope of this role may include supervising a process, instructing employees on food‑safety procedures, verifying procedures are followed, testing products, and completing the necessary documentation.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesDuties of this role may be one or any combination of the following:
- 20% – Ensure compliance of regulations/policies – ultimate accountability for all QA compliance across multiple existing and new product lines at the Fort McCoy Meat facility. Analyze, review, and interpret QA policies, regulations. Implement predefined customer and supplier standards, monitor regulatory activities, ensure plant compliance, and act as liaison with regulatory authorities at the local level.
- 10% – Perform prevention activities and issue resolution – act as customer interface, manage QA audits, respond to customer questions/complaints, proactively identify risks, take action to prevent QA issues across location.
- 10% – Develop, implement, and assess process/systems – plan and direct all QA programs and management of change, implement product specification systems, drive continuous improvement, provide input to location leaders related to base/non‑base capital needs to maintain food‑safety leadership position in one or more locations.
- 10% – Shape food safety, quality and regulatory culture/reputation – interface with managers/supervisors and represent QA; act as liaison between customer and operations to ensure standards/expectations are met, build and develop an effective engaged QA workforce, strategy/tactical plans.
- 10% – People and resource management – Accountable for selection, training, development, performance management; engagement for direct/indirect reports, develop/implement short‑range (tactical) QA plans in alignment with BU and local plans, actively participate in development of QA initiatives.
- 40% – Drill combinations of product to identify the fat percentages of the outgoing product. QA will have the responsibility of ensuring each combo meets the customer’s specified fat percentage; if it does not, QA will tag the product and have production rework it.
- High School diploma, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of the meat packing industry.
- Ability to cut meat using saws and/or knives.
- Knowledge of food safety, quality control, and sanitation.
- Serve Safe Certification preferred.
The job requires working into refrigerated and sometimes noisy conditions for several hours at a time. The use of PPE is required such as steel‑toed boots, rubber boots, earplugs, hard hats, goggles, metal mesh aprons, metal mesh gloves, rubber gloves, rubber protective aprons and pants, and other PPE gear as instructed for specific roles and tasks.
Physical RequirementsStanding for long periods of time;
Ability to withstand cold and noisy environments for several hours at a time;
Using hands and arms in handling and manipulating objects and equipment;
Communicating verbally with supervisors or coworkers;
Performing physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, reaching, balancing, bending, twisting, walking, stooping, and handling of materials;
Grasping objects such as meat, knives, levers and water hoses;
Some tasks require lifting moderately heavy boxes, carrying them several feet, and lifting them into position on a pallet; some positions require lifting up to 50 pounds.
