The Sales Manager position is responsible for the overall management and execution of operational excellence for the entire store, with additional specific focus on supervision and management of team members in Hardlines and Softlines Sales (camping, fishing & hunting, outdoor, firearms, apparel, footwear, and team sports).
It directs and coordinates activities through subordinate team leads and other team members. It is a leadership position and is expected to effectively drive the overall performance of the store through effective supervision, communication, and coordination of the team members.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- At least three years of relevant work experience required.
- Demonstrated success in leading overall departments of up to 40 people to drive operational excellence and sales targets.
- Exceptional supervisory and management skills; ability to effectively coach department members on store policies, protocols, and expectations; leads by example and drives performance.
- Excellent customer service orientation.
- Effective problem solving and communication with customers and team members.
- Strong business acumen with an understanding of business implications of decisions, market and competition, and an orientation to profitability and established targets.
- Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Speak clearly, positively, and persuasively; demonstrate active listening in a variety of situations with team members, customers, business partners, and the general public.
- Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of team members, business partners, customers, and the general public.
- Apply common sense and reasoning to make appropriate, timely decisions.
- Working knowledge of inventory software, order processing systems, payroll systems, and Microsoft Office products such as Word and Excel.
- Proficiently use basic mathematical computations and apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Full‑time position averaging 45‑50 hours/week.
- Overall management responsibility for the execution and operational excellence of the entire store.
- Management responsibility for Hardlines and Softlines Sales and active participation in personnel decisions of team members, including selection, training, discipline, termination, and development.
- Provide departmental direction to the Hardlines and Softlines Sales team and daily supervisory oversight to Team Leads and members to ensure exceptional customer service.
- Develop and implement strategy for achieving weekly and monthly operational goals and completing tasks assigned to the store, including sales, staffing, training, payroll, and scheduling.
- Manage workforce productivity, efficiency, and process improvement projects and initiatives.
- Hold team members accountable for compliance with established sales, safety, and security practices and procedures in conjunction with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Ensure completion of departmental zoning and adherence to department, store, and company standards.
- Supervise execution of assignments delegated by the Store Director in the Playbook.
- Actively participate in floor walks with the Regional Vice President, District Manager, and Store Director; create implementation plans based on feedback.
- Audit firearm sales in compliance with federal and state law, including completing ATF Form 4473 and conducting background checks, and sign off as final approver.
- Complete Firearms Sales Certification training.
- Complete Power Industrial Truck Certification training.
