this open competitive advertisement is for a ses (selected exempt service) position located at central office in tallahassee, florida, in the office of programs and re-entry within the bureau of re-entry and transition services.

the mission of the office of programs and re-entry at the florida department of corrections (fdc) is to provide comprehensive rehabilitative programs and services that prepare inmates for successful reintegration into society.

this position is not a telework position and is required to report to the fdc office in the area it serves.

job duties
  • leadership and supervision: provide guidance, direction, and training to regional community transition specialists to enhance community resources and linkages for employment, housing, education, and more.
  • team management: supervise pre-release employment navigator specialists, regional compass coordinators, and career development specialists to improve community resources and services.
  • independent decision making: perform advanced decision-making in line with the mission of the office of programs and re-entry and the florida department of corrections strategic plan.
  • collaborative programming: facilitate and promote pre- and post-release programming and services between community corrections, institutions, and community providers.
  • process improvement: research, develop, and present process improvement opportunities to enhance inmate and offender transitional practices statewide.
  • stakeholder communication: interact with regional directors, circuit administrators, wardens, and central office staff to ensure consistent messaging and meet the needs of inmates and offenders.
  • partnership building: engage with agencies like the department of children and families, florida housing authority, and career source to provide coordinated services aligned with fdc’s mission.
  • training and networking: coordinate and assist in training for department and contract staff, network with governmental agencies and volunteer groups, and participate in special projects as directed by the bureau chief.

  • must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • must be willing to travel. As required for the position.
  • must possess five (5) years of experience in re-entry and/or transition services.
  • must possess two (2) years of administrative experience supervising staff.
  • must possess six (6) years of correctional agency related experience.
  • must possess six (6) years of correctional agency related analytical research, data analysis, coordination of community partnerships, and auditing experience.
  • must possess six (6) years of experience in criminal justice, public administration, or behavioral science.
    • postsecondary education may substitute for up to six (6) years of the required experience in criminal justice, public administration, or behavioral science.
