An opportunity is available for a self‑motivated, hardworking individual to fill the position of Senior Maintenance Mechanic at Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park. Flexibility and a high level of commitment are required for this position. Professionalism and the ability to perform as part of a close‑knit team are essential attributes for any applicant to this position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Compliance: Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees found responsible.

VISITOR SERVICES: Represents Wakulla Springs and the Florida Park Service to outside agencies and organizations, disseminating information and promoting all opportunities. Attempts to resolve visitor complaints while maintaining good public relations. Implements emergency program procedures and demonstrates teamwork ethic.

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT: Knowledgeable of natural resource activities such as prescribed burning, water monitoring, exotic removal, erosion control, timber management, wildlife monitoring, and cultural resource management. Monitors historic facilities and objects for detrimental actions.

MAINTENANCE: Performs routine maintenance, cleaning, and repairs to buildings, fences, trails, service roads, fire lanes, boardwalks, docks and other facilities. Completes and submits work orders for repairs. Demonstrates skill and safety while operating various equipment and manages vehicle and vessel maintenance.

ADMINISTRATION: Prepares forms and reports on fees, receipts, visitor use, patrols, wildlife sightings, accidents, and equipment operations. Answers telephone, operates radio equipment, maintains logs, correspondence, and manages cash register transactions.

PROTECTION: Interprets park rules related to natural, historical, and archaeological resources. Opens park gates and entrance building, secures buildings before closing, and informs visitors of hazards.

OTHER: Performs other related duties as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • The principles and techniques of skilled building trades and mechanical repair work.
  • Safety procedures required in maintenance and repair work.
  • Operation and maintenance of assorted power/gas tools and equipment.
  • Good public relations and the ability to deal with people effectively.

SKILL IN:

  • Using appropriate tools to construct and maintain facilities.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Accurately preparing reports.
  • Interacting professionally with customers and the public.
  • Performing grounds and building maintenance (mowing, weed eating, pressure washing, painting).
  • Utilizing power tools, including chain saws and drills.
  • Basic plumbing repair.
  • Basic electrical work.
  • Basic carpentry for boardwalk and fence repairs.
  • Using a computer with Microsoft Office Suite.

ABILITY TO:

  • Perform a variety of skilled trade functions.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electric motors, generators, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair small engines and equipment.
  • Take accurate measurements.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Oversee maintenance projects as directed.
  • Work rotating shifts including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships.
  • Prepare maintenance logs and correspondence.
  • Understand and apply regulatory requirements.
  • Open and close park gates and secure facilities.
  • Operate equipment, vehicles, and vessels.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid Driver’s License.
BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422. Successful completion of background screening is required.

PAY

Base salary $3,176.43 per month / $38,117.16 annual.
