The Custodian, 4 Hour, will perform daily cleaning, minor maintenance, yard duties, and assigned tasks in order to provide a clean and healthy learning environment in all school district facilities.
Responsibilities- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes, and burnishes floors; vacuums and shampoos carpets as applicable; cleans, sanitizes, and stocks restrooms; cleans and dusts all horizontal and vertical surfaces; removes and disposes of waste daily; maintains clean custodial closets.
- Performs minor non-cleaning maintenance tasks (e.g., changing light bulbs, toilet seats, unclogs toilets, ceiling tiles, touch-up paint, securing windows, delivering supplies, setting up for facility activities/meetings, assembling and moving furniture).
- Follows lawn and facility maintenance tasks (mowing, weeding, edging, trimming, fertilizing, minor plant replacement, mulching, cleaning sidewalks/curbs, watering, pressure washing, graffiti removal as appropriate).
- Opens, closes, and secures the facility, including gates, doors, windows, and alarm systems; turns on/off lights; ensures grounds and facilities are free of debris and hazards; responds to emergencies by securing the perimeter.
- Works independently or as part of a custodial crew; demonstrates teamwork, tact, and professionalism; maintains a positive outlook and supports co-workers; assists and resolves conflicts as needed.
- Assumes modified duties of the Head Custodian or Custodial Crew Leader in the absence of the incumbent and performs other duties as assigned.
- Possesses basic working English language skills.
- Performs any other duties as assigned.
- Experience:
One (1) year of increasingly responsible experience in large-scale housekeeping, custodial, or building and grounds maintenance. - Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:
All new and current employees are encouraged to complete the Custodial Operations Career Advancement training program through Hillsborough County Public Schools. - Language
Skills:
Reads and comprehends simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; writes simple correspondence; effectively presents information in one-on-one and small group situations. - Mathematical
Skills:
Add/subtract two-digit numbers; multiply/divide with 10’s and 100’s; perform operations using money, weight, volume, and distance. - Reasoning Ability:
Applies common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions; deals with standardized situations with limited variables. - Computer
Skills:
Proficient with internal HCPS email system and HCPS district website as appropriate.
- Physical activities:
Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, crawling, handling, keyboarding, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, near and far acuity, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision. - Lifting:
Up to 55 pounds; over 55 pounds requires a two-person lift. - Reaching:
Both dominant and non-dominant hands; overhead. - Environmental conditions:
Extreme cold/heat, wet/humid, noise, cleaning chemicals; wear eye protection; exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, fumes or airborne particles.
