This opportunity with Sarasota County consists of light to moderately heavy manual labor and semi-skilled/trainee level work in maintenance and minor interior/exterior repairs of buildings and facilities, infrastructure, park grounds, and/or equipment.

Maintains neighborhood parks and dog parks to include minor repairs such as fencing, signs, restrooms, etc;
Weeding, trimming and some landscaping.

Maintains and performs daily checks for playground areas and equipment, parking lots, storage areas, pavilion, and hard-court surfaces.

Provides janitorial services for restrooms. Performs these and other duties throughout county multiple facilities and parks. Empties trash and picks up litter inside and outside at the park.

Check reservation software to plan for maintenance needs.

Provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers at all times.

Makes temporary repairs. Performs minor, routine plumbing work to include unclogging toilets through use of plunger and/or toilet snake.

Regularly checks the park to ensure cleanliness and safety. Submits work orders to address issues that cannot be handles on-site.

Minor carpentry work to include measuring boards or plywood, using square, measuring tape, and ruler, and marks cutting lines on materials. Saws boards and plywood panels to required sizes.

Painting items such as restrooms and tables. Graffiti Removal. Helps install benches, picnic tables, and trash can holders.

Operates and maintains all equipment to include maintenance cart, floor machine, weed whacker, hand tools, blower, timers, and lighting mechanisms.

Ensures the facility is secure. Works with staff to ensure the proper historical and archaeological maintenance needs are being met.

Supports recreation facilities and events as needed. This may include the use of the floor machine to clean large surface areas such as gyms or large rooms and set up for rentals.

Work Hours:

40 Hours Per Week - 7:30 a.m.

- 4:00 p.m. Schedules can change based upon operational needs and events. Weekend work is required.

A High School Diploma or its equivalent and one year of experience as a semi-skilled laborer in the care and maintenance of parks, landscape, athletic fields, or other similar grounds.

Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License at time of hire.

May be required to secure a Florida Commercial Driver License.

Certain positions may require possession of job-related certification as specified in appropriate position description.

Physical Demands:
Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening:
This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

Pay: $15.58 (Step
1) - $22.89 (Step 14) depending on experience
