POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the CJIS Manager I, this position is responsible for conducting research of criminal justice information to ensure all information received or disseminated is compliant with state and federal requirements. This position is also responsible for monitoring the Computerized Criminal History (CCH) workflow and processing tasks within defined time frames as well as providing quality service to local, state, and federal agencies and the general public.

This position must meet and maintain National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Florida Crime Information Center (FCIC) certification as required and is responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of data housed within the department databases.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific duties include:

  • Conducting research for accurate and complete criminal justice information by utilizing internal and external databases or making contact with other criminal justice and non-criminal justice agencies to ensure all information received or disseminated is compliant with state and federal requirements;
  • Analyzing, evaluating, and interpreting legal documents in reference to the expunction or sealing of criminal history records in order to process applications for Certification of Eligibility;
  • Maintaining regular contact with local, state, and federal criminal justice, other criminal justice agencies outside the state of Florida, non-criminal justice agencies for the purpose of gathering required documentation to gain clarification as needed for decisions and record modifications;
  • Conducting research for relevant information from multiple databases and resources;
  • Analyzing multiple source documents to form a recommendation and decision for eligibility requirements for the expunction or sealing of criminal history records;
  • Providing documentation to external criminal justice partners to support updates to criminal justice systems;
  • Ensuring internal documentation for criminal justice information updates includes extensive notation and markup to justify recommended updates to criminal history records;
  • Processing requests for the dissemination of records in compliance with state statute as requested;
  • Maintaining security and integrity of data housed within the department databases; and
  • Performing additions, deletions, and modifications of criminal history as required or in compliance with court orders.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication;
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system;
  • Knowledge of the methods of data collection;
  • Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data;
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques;
  • Ability to operate computers and other office equipment;
  • Ability to monitor criminal justice information activities;
  • Ability to work independently by planning, organizing, and coordinating work assignments; and
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
