Location: Tallahassee
Career Service position located at the Central Office in Tallahassee, FL, Office of Information Technology. The mission of the Office of Information Technology at the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is to provide reliable, secure, and innovative technology solutions that support the department's operations and strategic goals. This is not a telework position and requires reporting to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOBDUTIES
- Provide support for computer systems at multiple sites as part of the Department’s Central Office, covering personal computers, midrange minicomputers, and the large mainframe computer, as well as telecommunications and related software.
- Plan, design, implement, and troubleshoot the local client architecture, including connecting personal computers to the local area network, installing client software products, maintaining documentation, and troubleshooting problems.
- Install and support network computers, including setup and loading of software; perform the technical role of system manager, including functions of backup, recovery, and troubleshooting.
- Assist with general support of peripheral devices such as monitors, docks, printers, USB drives, and scanners.
- Provide support for software packages including Microsoft Office 365, Adobe products, terminal emulation software, and others.
- Assist with maintenance of inventory of user-issued Information Technology (IT) equipment.
- Assist other IT units, such as Field Staff, with issues as needed.
- Provide after‑hours on‑call support on an as‑needed basis.
- Knowledge of distributed processing operations, procedures, and equipment.
- Knowledge of computers and software.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of computer systems analysis.
- Ability to process information logically and solve problems.
- Ability to develop training programs related to distributed processing operations and procedures.
- Ability to monitor and resolve problems with distributed computer systems components.
- Ability to identify and define user task needs.
- Ability to plan, organize, and execute complex systems installations and upgrades.

- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to work on call, including during times of emergencies or disasters.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Experience working in an IT environment.
- Work experience in a corrections or secure environment.
- Possess any technical certifications.
- Experience with VoIP systems.
- Experience using any ticketing software for tracking technical work, such as Cherwell, Service Now, or other IT related ticketing systems.
The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before starting work or volunteering.
