SWAT Coordination
- Serves as the SWAT Coordinator to organize the youth prevention component, Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT), of the statewide comprehensive Tobacco Prevention and Control Program by planning youth meetings, recruiting and retaining youth in the SWAT organization, and working with youth to develop youth trainings and events throughout the county.
- Identifies and recruits adult partnership members, parents, teachers, and volunteers in the region to serve as partners to support youth tobacco prevention efforts. Transports adult volunteers, and transports and chaperones youth volunteers/advocates, to local, regional, state, and/or national tobacco prevention and control trainings, events, meetings, functions, or activities. Transport may be with a state or county vehicle, with the employee’s own personal vehicle, or with a rental vehicle.
- Promotes youth empowerment by increasing skills, knowledge of tobacco issues and prevention, and advocacy training.
- Promotes the Florida Quitline and refers community members to tobacco cessation services offered at the local level.
- Prepares and disseminates news releases and other information to communities.
- Promotes a tobacco‑free lifestyle in the community.
- Plans and coordinates the development and implementation of a health promotion and public health education program and projects for assigned tobacco use prevention and smoking cessation policy areas.
- Collaborates with other staff to develop and submit a tobacco‑prevention work plan focusing on promoting cessation, reducing exposure to secondhand smoke, and on preventing youth and college age initiation.
- Acts as a team to perform community needs assessments to identify strategies for tobacco prevention, use reduction, and to develop policy to reduce tobacco use and access to tobacco products and to reduce exposure to secondhand smoke, related to assigned policy areas.
- May serve as the secondary point of contact for all tobacco prevention and control for the county health department.
- Assists in the collection and review of data, prepares reports and statistical charts and graphs to ensure program outcomes and to be used for educational purposes.
- Develops, implements and evaluates surveys to identify health promotion and health education needs for clients and/or community.
- Reviews and evaluates education practices in assigned policy areas to ensure compliance with applicable statutes, rules, and regulations.
- Develops, coordinates, and promotes issues that provide knowledge and behavior modification skills that will contribute to tobacco‑free lifestyles, in the assigned policy areas.
- Assists with the preparation, purchasing and overall management in coordination of the program budget.
- Co‑lead Leon’s Tobacco Free Florida Partnership.
- Participates in local community partnerships by helping to organize meetings, conducting business and activities of the partnership. Assists in recruiting partnership members.
- Assures that healthy communities representatives receive training on effective prevention and control strategies and the program’s mission, goals, and objectives.
- Works with other agencies and staff to coordinate training of CHD staff or other health professionals outside the agency.

QualificationsPreferred – Bachelor’s Degree, Program planning and implementation experience.
