Welcome to Pasco County Fire Rescue Reservist Program! Thank you for your interest in becoming a Reservist with the Pasco County Board of County Commissioners and giving back to your community. In Pasco County, we strive to provide excellent public services that meet the needs of our citizens and enhance the quality of life for our residents and visitors. Your position as a Reservist is recognized as an opportunity for you to advance your firefighter and EMT skills all the while being an integrated member of our Fire Rescue family.

Pasco County Fire Rescue Reserve Firefighter/EMT – Is a voluntary position within the Fire Rescue Department. Performs orderly and systematic evaluations and examinations of scenes and patients. Provides care, treatment, and transportation of patients in accordance with the knowledge and skills of a Registered Emergency Medical Technician. Responds to emergencies with fire or rescue companies and performs related functions as required.
May be assigned duties as required. Assists with truck check out, station duties, and general station and scene assignments. Completes reports and records and operates radios according to system standards and guidelines. Ensures that all supplies, equipment, and apparatus are sufficient, operational and properly maintained. Reports deficiencies to supervisor immediately. Performs maintenance chores of quarters, station, and grounds. Attends and participates in company drills and training sessions.
Performs related work as required.
- Knowledge of practices and procedures in accordance with U.S. DOT EMT-Basic National Standard Curriculum for the EMT.
- Obtains Emergency Vehicle Operator's Course (EVOC) provided by Pasco County Fire Rescue.
- Ability to gain knowledge of the street system and geography.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn and operate relatively complex equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the public.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform prolonged and difficult work under adverse conditions.
- Ability to learn a wide variety of duties and methods within a reasonable training period.
- Ability and willingness to learn new methods and techniques.
Position requires climbing ladders, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, stooping, and running. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.
Special RequirementsPositions are filled on an as-needed basis. No phone calls please. You must successfully complete the Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT). The CPAT is administered by the National Testing Network (NTN). Enrollment for the CPAT can be accomplished at the NTN web page at
Additional RequirementsMust be a nonuser of tobacco or tobacco products for at least one year immediately preceding application, as defined in FS633.34.
Education, Training and ExperienceGraduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
Licenses, Certifications or RegistrationsQualified applicants selected for interview are REQUIRED to possess and provide upon request copies of their lifetime driving history; CPAT;
Current registration by the State of Florida as an EMT or Paramedic;
Current certification by the American Heart Association, American Red Cross or American Safety & Health Institute in BLS or ACLS;
Certificate of Compliance from the Florida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training;
Social Security Card;
Valid driver's license.
