Job Description

Handles collection functions of Durable Medical Equipment for all primary and secondary payers whether it is Commercial, Managed Care, Medicaid or Medicare. Handles follow up collections of balances due from all payers. Performs various collection functions for all accounts adhering to the Corporate Collections Policy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid guidelines and applies that knowledge to billing as required by individual contracts.
  • Understands Medicaid, Medicare and Insurance billing, including coordination of benefits and appeals process for redeterminations.
  • Multi-tasks in various computer applications to gather billing and collection information to perform collections.
  • Performs systematic collections as directed by management.
  • Verifies outstanding account balances.
  • Performs follow up as necessary and re-bills according to collection policy.
  • Enters call back notes into appropriate databases for future collection efforts and inter-departmental communications.
  • Prepare price adjustments and refunds as appropriate.
  • Adheres to KPIs as defined for this role in Accounts Receivable.
  • Manages work queue in a timely and efficient manner resulting in resolved AR avoiding timely filing write offs.
  • Raises awareness on denial trends to management, with supporting data.
  • Raises awareness on pricing trends to management (short pays), with supporting data.
  • Reconciles open accounts to clearly establish patient responsibility.
  • Performs related duties as required or as assigned by supervisor.
  • Works minimum 40-hour work week with required overtime as business needs dictate.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • AA Degree preferred but not required
  • 3-5 years Medical Billing/Collections experience
  • Knowledge of Medicare guidelines, Medicaid programs, Managed Care and Commercial contracting
  • Good analytical skills and a high degree of accuracy
  • Proficiency in Windows environment, with emphasis on Word and Excel
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with multiple billing software/system conversions beneficial
Additional Information

Hours for this Position:

M-F 8-5 with Overtime if needed
