The Planner reviews and applies land use regulations, codes and ordinances for the planning and development of the County. Performs at a professional level with excellent verbal and presentation skills. Conducts studies, collects, and analyzes data for application to County plans. Preserves and enhances the County's natural and structural aesthetic land use and development through practical application of the Land Development Code and all applicable established zoning and code regulations.
The schedule for this full-time position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

- Provides assistance to the public in interpreting planning procedures for compliance with County codes, regulations and ordinances, and grants.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, codes and regulations and the Land Development Code. Reviews and verifies the accuracy of information submitted.
- Participates and administers various land development programs and committees.
- Prepares general correspondence in response to public requests, questions, and concerns.
- Conducts field/construction site inspections to determine compliance with all applicable codes, zoning regulations and ordinances including permit review.
- Prepares and presents reports to various planning commissions, the Board of County Commissioners, and other local, state, and federal governmental agencies for land development requests, e.g., variances, conditional uses, land development code amendments, comprehensive plan amendments and rezoning requests.
- Participates in studies relative to the preparation and updating of subdivision regulations, zoning ordinances, land use, community facilities, housing, park and recreation as directed.
- Produces various maps, photos and drawings for land development projects and meetings.
- Conducts data entry and retrieval.
- Drives and/or operates a county vehicle or equipment and must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in planning or closely related field.
- Land Development experience working with project management and site review, preferred.
- Five (5) years of direct work experience in county permitting/plan review may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
- Knowledge of land use planning principles, zoning regulations, and land development codes.
- Ability to interpret and apply local, state, and federal laws, codes, and ordinances.
- Ability to review development applications, conduct research, and analyze planning data.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including interaction with the public and presentations.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments with accuracy, professionalism, and adherence to deadlines.
- Requires ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public.
- Must have strong working knowledge of computers and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of Products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.), including other professional software such as, but not limited to, Adobe Acrobat and Arc View.
- Valid Florida Driver License or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida.
- Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses:

- Requires sitting most of the day.
- The job involves frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 20 pounds.
