About Our Job

To provide professional land use planning in the review and processing of rezone petitions, special exceptions, developments of regional impacts, development of critical concern and small area comprehensive plan amendments as associated with rezone petitions.

Job Description

Reviews and processes rezones, special exceptions, developments of regional impacts, development of critical concern and small area comprehensive plan amendments; prepares and assists with reports and recommendations; assists applicants and the public with questions and factual findings; reviews site and development plans and permit plans.

Prepares staff reports, public hearing packets, adhere to eGenda timeline criteria. Accurately post billable hours into LIMS program.

Makes presentations, including providing factual findings and reports, to the public and the Planning Commission.

Participates in neighborhood workshops, preliminary and pre-application meetings with applicants.

Participates in Planner of the Day (POD) and Zoner of the Day (ZOD) program assisting the general public, County agencies and departments with general information and reports, and respond to information requests for customer walk-ins, telephone calls, and emails relating to interpretation of Zoning Ordinance related to zoning districts, permitted land uses, setback and land development regulations and standards.

Develops and conducts special studies and analysis, Neighborhood Workshops, CIVICS events, and other specific project work as assigned or requested.

Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

About You

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Planning, Geography, or a closely aligned and related field. A minimum of one-year related professional planning experience (may include related planning internships). A Master’s Degree may substitute for the required experience. Planning experience can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis depending on the type of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

GIS Mapping experience preferred.

Job Competencies

Principles and practices of land use and public facilities planning, local and state laws, rules and regulations pertaining to land use planning, project management skills, facilitation skills, positive interpersonal skills, professional public speaking skills, strong written and oral communication skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software and become proficient in County used software such as LIMS, SharePoint, ArcGIS, eGenda, KRONOS and other software which the County may utilize.
