Balfour Beatty Construction is seeking a BIM/VDC Manager to join our team in South Florida. The primary role of the BIM/VDC Manager is to oversee the successful implementation of technology and related processes and serve as an expert resource to a project team during both the Preconstruction and Operations phases of the project. The BIM/VDC Manager is involved in project pursuits and develops BIM (Building Information Modeling) strategies for proposals.
The BIM/VDC Manager leads the development of models, and marketing materials, and is heavily involved in training efforts related to technology.
- Build effective relationships with customers, design team, subcontractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company core values and meet or exceed the customer's expectations.
- Attend technology/BIM-related Industry functions in a relationship-building capacity.
- Develop and run training & seminars for industry organizations and clients.
- Identify speaking/writing opportunities with industry groups and publications.
- Actively participate in professional organizations, schools, and universities, such as AGC, DBIA, CMAA, etc.
- Lead the development of models, maintaining focus on the value/goals of modeling.
- Build models or further develops existing models to be used for specific BIM processes at all project phases.
- Review RFP and contracting BIM requirements; communicate BIM concerns and issues to the project team and the owner.
- Maintain and update BIM proposal strategy, writing narratives and presentations.
- Maintain and update BIM specifications and execution plans.
- Oversee BIM execution during project pursuit, preconstruction, and operation.
- Assist in the development of the design schedule to meet BIM needs on Design-Build or IPD projects; monitor schedule progress.
- Supervise the process of project start-up.
- Oversee and ensure proper execution and quality of BIM.
- Ensures the project team starts BIM workflows on time and follows the established processes;
Escalate critical issues and ensure corrective action is taken when needed. - Oversee the finalization of any outstanding issues
- Proactively pursue personal development to remain proficient in the latest BIM technologies and programs.
- Participate in internal and external user groups for software/process to identify best practices and troubleshooting.
- Identify and evaluates new BIM or operation technology to determine if it should be purchased or implemented based on business needs.
- Develop BIM process workflows to be used internally as BIM SOP.
- Participate in technology and process development task teams.
- Maintain the BIM knowledge database, lessons learned, and techniques, and distribute the knowledge.
- Write technology/BIM-related articles for internal and external use.
- Demonstrate leadership skills with the ability and willingness to face challenges and motivate others, while exceeding the expectations of project teams and clients.
- Ensure BIM production efforts meet firmwide design and quality standards
- Contribute to defining the overall direction for BIM.
- Encourage employee growth by mentoring and managing development plans
- Understand the difference between project delivery methods and contract types, and how it's impacting the bid, design, and coordination.
- Understand the functions and needs of other project teams including project on-site team, marketing, estimating, scheduling, safety, and accounting, and promote an inter-discipline approach to improve work efficiency.
- Understand the process of RFI, ASI, CCD, submittals, change orders, and other administrative documents.
- Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, construction technology, information technology, or related industry.
- Minimum of five years' experience in the design, construction, or consulting industry; operations experience preferred but not required.
- A strong understanding of design and construction processes, construction tools & equipment, and project management systems.
- A strong understanding of construction technology platforms, processes, and workflows.
- 2-3+ years of trade modeling experience, or 2+ years of clash coordination experience.
- 3+ years of clash coordination experience.
- 2+ years of field engineer, surveying, or operations experience.
