Position Concept

In this position, the technician or specialist reports to the engineering manager, Solar and Energy Storage Operations. The individual is responsible for personal safety awareness, maintenance and technical support of all Solar Digital Control/Computer Systems (DCS) and other solar‑wide process control systems, their subsystems and field input/output devices. They provide technical support, training, and assist maintenance, operations, engineering and management personnel.

They manage system backup processes, software, data interfaces such as the Canary System (Historian), Maintenance IO and Calibration Report database applications. They are also responsible for cyber security concerns and associated activities.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensure Solar Digital Process Control/Computer systems are maintained and running properly; initiate necessary repairs and manage ongoing maintenance.
  • Provide day‑to‑day operational and maintenance support and training to local personnel for all Solar Process Digital Control/Computer systems and subsystems; manage spare parts review and documentation.
  • Maintain Solar DCS subsystems (Ignition Control System, Canary Historian, Solar Plant Master Controllers) and ensure proper operation.
  • Provide active support for upgrades and new installations of Plant Process Control/Computer systems; document concerns, installations, and future maintenance requirements; support graphic, control, and point building as needed; review point alarm priorities; maintain monthly software backups and installation documentation; keep the I/O maintenance database current.
  • Maintain personal safety awareness; attend safety training and meetings; perform monthly H.E.C. procedure reviews; orchestrate housekeeping reviews; review PPE; assist the team in maintaining a safe and compliant workplace.
  • Continuously educate on state‑of‑the‑art equipment and operating procedures to optimize station controls.
  • Provide technical support and direction in instrument & controls areas, including routine and emergency maintenance, problem resolution, root‑cause analysis, and engineering documentation for new field installations or upgrades.
  • Review and implement Solar Cyber Security initiatives, including deployment of N.E.R.C. standards, equipment configurations, software backup subsystems, and anti‑virus and public domain subsystems; maintain extensive documentation for all DCS system and infrastructure security processes.
Education

Required: Minimum of a high school education. Additional technical training specific to area of responsibility is expected.

Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Science from an accredited college.

Experience Maintenance Specialist II

Required: Minimum of 10 years of work experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this position; experience with industrial control and telemetry systems (PLC, RTU, HMI).

Preferred: Work experience in a solar or renewables environment.

Maintenance Specialist III

Required: Minimum of 12 years of experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this position; experience with industrial control and telemetry systems (PLC, RTU, HMI). College degree may substitute equivalent experience.

Preferred: Work experience in an industrial‑scale solar site.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities (KSA)

Required: Working knowledge of industrial‑scale solar design; basic control processes; strong attention to detail, good planning, clear written and verbal communication, teamwork, high safety awareness; ability to pass pulmonary function and negative pressure respirator fit test; proficiency with PPE.

Working Conditions

24/7 coverage needed to respond to plant needs.

Physical Demands / Requirements

Must be able to work in dusty, hot, outdoor environments.
