The Renewables Tech is responsible for providing ongoing support to multiple photovoltaic (PV) plant sites across Duke Energy Florida’s service territory. Duties include troubleshooting and resolving equipment issues, scheduling maintenance, executing design changes and equipment modifications, and supporting new plant start‑ups. The role also involves overseeing equipment performance, managing testing schedules, and directing contractors, technicians, and engineers toward improved O&M output quality.
Responsibilitiesand Duties
- Troubleshoot, resolve equipment issues and design change requirements.
- Schedule and perform maintenance, installation, and start‑up support.
- Support existing equipment performance and reliability.
- Coordinate equipment testing schedules and allocate tasks to contract testers, technicians, and engineers.
- Ensure compliance with all operational, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Lead safety initiatives, including Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out procedures and contractor oversight.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 0‑1 year of electrical maintenance or solar PV systems experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Associate’s Degree or technical certification in the electrical field with one or more years of experience.
- 2 years of technical training or military training in electrical maintenance or solar PV systems.
- Working knowledge of power distribution systems.
- Experience with inverters, electrical design, Maximo CMMS, and centralized SCADA/EMS control systems.
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
- 5 or more years of electrical maintenance or solar PV systems experience.
- Field mobility – work in various locations after onboarding.
- 12‑hour rotating shifts, extended hours, nights, weekends, and flexibility as plant conditions require.
- Personal protective equipment required: hardhat, steel‑toed safety shoes, safety glasses, arc‑flash gear.
- Ability to climb, crawl, kneel, stand, sit, and walk in extreme heat/cold and around rotating equipment.
- Must live within one hour of a site under their responsibility.
- Must lift 50 lbs and work in high temperatures and direct sunlight.
- Travel likely; overnight trips may be required.
- Successful completion of the MASS test.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Weight restriction of 275 lbs as an essential function; all weight‑rated equipment must be used safely.
