Job Summary

TMMG is seeking an experienced Marine Engineer / Naval Architect / Field Engineer to support on-site engineering execution at Eastern Shipbuilding Group (ESG), Port St. Joe, FL, in support of two 400-Class Multi-Purpose Supply Vessels (MPSVs) currently under construction. This position supports TMMG’s Engineering Design Team (EDT), which provides engineering services to Military Sealift Command (MSC), the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Coast Guard, and commercial maritime operators.

The role is focused on delivering practical, executable engineering solutions that support shipboard operations, shipyard installations, modernization efforts, troubleshooting, testing, and vessel delivery. The Field Engineer is expected to operate with minimal supervision, take ownership of assigned engineering issues, and actively manage technical, schedule, and execution risk as construction progresses.

Why This Role Matters
  • Reduce rework
  • Prevent small technical issues from becoming schedule problems
  • Maintain alignment between engineering, production, and the waterfront
  • Provide continuity of engineering judgment through late-stage construction and delivery
Duration & Continuity

This position is expected to run through July 2026, aligned with construction, testing, and delivery milestones for the two 400-Class MPSVs. There is a strong likelihood of extension through vessel completion, trials, and post-delivery support depending on program needs.

Field & Waterfront Engineering Support
  • Serve as the on-site engineering representative supporting daily construction, outfitting, and system installation activities aboard both 400-Class MPSVs.
  • Maintain a regular presence on the vessel to observe work in progress, verify installation intent, and identify emerging technical issues before they impact schedule or quality.
  • Respond to production questions and Requests for Information (RFIs) in real time, providing practical engineering guidance aligned with approved design intent.
  • Support resolution of conflicts between drawings, specifications, vendor data, and actual field conditions.
  • Assist production teams with interpretation of engineering documents to ensure installations are executed correctly the first time.
Design Integration & Engineering Issue Resolution
  • Review engineering drawings, sketches, specifications, and vendor submittals to support constructability and system integration.
  • Coordinate with ESG engineering, designers, vendors, and classification societies as required to resolve technical issues.
  • Assist with development, validation, and execution of engineering changes driven by field conditions, vendor updates, or production sequencing impacts.
  • Identify and communicate potential downstream impacts of design or field changes, including access, maintainability, testing, and rework risks.
  • Support integration across hull structure, arrangements, machinery, piping, HVAC, electrical systems, and outfitting.
Production & Shipyard Coordination
  • Work directly with shipyard production supervisors, foremen, and trades to support efficient execution of engineering intent.
  • Participate in production meetings, coordination reviews, and issue-resolution discussions as required.
  • Translate engineering requirements into practical, buildable solutions aligned with shipyard workflows and constraints.
  • Identify sequencing conflicts or constructability challenges early and coordinate corrective actions with engineering and production leadership.
  • Serve as the technical bridge between design teams and the waterfront, maintaining alignment as construction progresses.
Testing, Trials & Delivery Support
  • Support system testing, commissioning activities, and pre-trial preparations during late-stage construction.
  • Assist with resolution of test discrepancies, punch list items, and inspection findings.
  • Provide engineering support during dock trials and sea trials as required.
  • Support final inspections, documentation close-out, and delivery readiness activities.
  • Maintain continuity of…
