Job OverviewThis role involves performing field and laboratory testing, observing, and inspecting construction materials (e.g., soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel). The Technician communicates with project managers, engineers, client representatives, contractors, and other stakeholders to discuss project requirements and testing results. They transport material samples to the lab, prepare and submit reports, maintain equipment, vehicles, and work areas, assist with scheduling technicians, and adhere to safety standards.
Responsibilities- Perform field and/or laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials.
- Communicate with project manager, engineering technicians, client representative, contractor’s representative and others regarding site, project requirements, and testing results.
- Transport material samples with documentation to the laboratory for testing and analysis.
- Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observations in written and digital reports for daily transmittal to the Terracon Project Manager.
- Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
- Assist with scheduling and dispatch of Technicians to project sites.
- Adhere to strict safety standards.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Assist on tasks and perform basic testing and observation duties under close supervision.
- Provide clear documentation of findings and results.
- Communicate information to Project Manager and discuss accuracy of data prior to submission.
- Submit documentation and communicate results as directed by the Project Manager.
- Progressively increase training and responsibility in work assignments.
- Maintain assigned equipment.
- Drive a vehicle such as a Ford F‑150 or equivalent.
- Follow safety rules and practices, perform pre‑task planning, and report safety issues or concerns to management.
- Maintain quality standards on all projects.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 6 months of experience required.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
- Obtain Nuclear Density Gauge certification within 6 months of hire.
- Obtain ACI certification within 90 days of hire.
- Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
