This position is responsible for coaching employees and contractors to create a safe work environment by educating personnel on compliance with all safety, health, and environmental (SHE) requirements, leading by example, and promoting a positive SHE culture.

What You'll Do:
  • Field Coaching (≈75% of time):
    • Mentor and guide employees/contractors in safe work practices.
    • Actively participate in Job Hazard Analyses, Incident Investigations, Key Procedures, Life Critical Assessments, Audits, and Workplace Inspections.
    • Provide safety expertise in reviews and meetings (e.g., Tap Root, Apolla RCA).
    • Recommend changes to safety systems and advise personnel on improving site safety.
    • Accompany and document OSHA/MSHA and other formal inspections.
    • Support behavioral‑based safety programs through coaching and mentoring.
    • Listen to employee safety concerns, follow up, and provide feedback.
    • Respond to technical and legal field questions.
  • Training (≈25–35% of time, some overlapping with field time):
    • Train new employees/contractors and provide ongoing assessments.
    • Deliver site‑specific MSHA/OSHA compliance training for employees, contractors, and visitors.
    • Train on auditing, corporate guidance, SOPs, regulations, and safe work methods using practical field sessions.
    • Coach sustainable safe work habits and assist in technical training programs.
    • Support new training initiatives in coordination with Corporate Training.
  • Work Planning:
    • Reinforce planning and safe work practices per Nutrien Corporate Policies.
    • Participate and coach in JHAs, PSSRs, MOCs, Pre‑Bid Meetings, PHAs, HAZOPs, etc.
    • Provide clarity on regulatory and legislative requirements.
  • Continuing

    Education:
    • Attend safety events, conferences, and team leader meetings.
    • Develop and distribute meeting topics, agendas, and training materials.
    • Continuously improve training effectiveness.
  • Documentation & Analysis:
    • Review safety activities for completeness.
    • Analyze safety data, trends, and incidents to recommend corrective actions.
    • Track concerns, recommendations, and action items to completion.
    • Monitor SHE work orders and assist as needed, providing feedback to personnel.
  • Contractor Management:
    • Attend contractor meetings, provide training, and conduct field audits.
    • Ensure contractors understand and align with Nutrien’s goals and safety expectations.
  • Other Safety Responsibilities:
    • Apply process safety management (PSM) principles to improve systems.
    • Lead incident investigations and manage documentation in ETQ.
    • Develop and update safety procedures, SOPs, and policies.
    • Test, investigate, and approve new PPE.
    • Support Industrial Hygiene activities, audits, and emergency management drills.
    • Maintain OSHA, MSHA, ETQ, and PSM records.
    • Pursue professional safety certifications.
    • Lead, influence, and assess safety programs, providing improvement recommendations.
What You'll Bring:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
    • Associates degree or higher in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field preferred; preference given for higher degree.
  • 3-5 years of health and safety experience in industrial or manufacturing operations, required.
  • 7-10 years of health and safety experience in industrial or manufacturing operations, preferred.
