CERTIFICATION SPECIALIST QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years' related work experience.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

    Requires the ability to display knowledge of and communicate applicable state and departmental policies, procedures, regulations, rules, and acts governing the processing of personnel actions. Possess communication, spelling, and grammar skills. Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Ability to display knowledge of the use of specified computer applications involving data entry and standard report generation. Requires the ability to display interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with internal staff, administrative officials, and the public.

    Requires the ability to meet and deal with the public in an effective, courteous, and cooperative manner.

    Director of Human Resources, HR Coordinator, and/or HR Manager

    POSITION GOALS

    To perform advanced, specialized, complex duties related to educator certification. This includes analyzing certification eligibility, monitoring district certification compliance in relation to state and federal legislation and providing support to various levels of stakeholders.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as the District certification liaison to the Florida Department of Education (FDOE), Bureau of Educator Certification (BEC), and other Florida school district certification personnel.
  • Maintain compliance with State statutes, regulations, and rules pertaining to educator certification and recommend appropriate changes or additions to District policies and directives.
  • Confirm certification eligibility of applicants and employees for recommended or assigned positions.
  • Analyze certificated personnel credentials to ensure eligibility for obtaining and maintaining required subject areas on their Florida Educator’s Certificate.
  • Provide group and/or individual certification counseling sessions to ensure certification compliance.
  • Resolve discrepancies and exceptions on all matters pertaining to certification in the personnel systems.
  • Collaborate with schools, departments, employees, FDOE, and BEC to facilitate certification compliance.
  • Participate in FDOE and BEC training sessions related to state and federal certification legislation.
  • Update and maintain certification records within the district employee database.
  • Process and maintain records of all applications for certification, including initial applications, renewals, and additions.
  • Serve as advisor to administrative personnel by providing information on staff certification status and eligibility.
  • Provide applicants and employees with information about Florida educator certification.
  • Provide certification information for the Human Resources certification webpage.
  • Assist in the identification of out-of-field teachers and provide advice regarding appropriate options to obtain compliance of in-field designation.
  • Submit out-of-field teacher lists for Board approval and website posting.
  • Abide by and facilitate adherence to all applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures.
  • Keep supervisors informed of potential problems or unusual events.
  • Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Follow all School Board policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Exhibit interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member.
  • Always maintain the highest level of professional and ethical conduct.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the designated supervisor.
  • TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Twelve months, 7.5 hours per day. Salary to be based on the Board adopted non-instructional salary schedule.

    EVALUATION

    Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Human Resources Director in accordance with the Board’s policy for the evaluation of Non-Instructional personnel.
