ResponsibilitiesThe Department of Geography in the College of Social Sciences & Public Policy at Florida State University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. We are seeking a broadly trained physical geographer specializing in climate science, with interests that include climate variability and change, climate extremes, interactions of climate with other Earth-environmental systems, and climate impacts on Earth surface processes, such as water resources, ecosystems, and agriculture.
We welcome candidates who use an array of research methods and tools to tackle the burning questions of the day, including field-based, remote sensing, and modeling approaches. The successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to maintain an active research program that yields publications and external grant submissions. The candidate will also demonstrate and value high quality teaching and mentoring at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
We are seeking a new colleague who will join us in building and maintaining a strong, healthy, and thriving department community. We welcome scholars who will bring passion and excitement into the classroom, both indoors and outdoors, and offer courses that complement and strengthen the existing curriculum in physical geography, including those relevant to environmental field methods. The candidate will contribute to the department’s programs that include a bachelor’s degree in Geography, a bachelor’s degree in Environment and Society, a master’s degree in Geography, a master’s degree in Geographic Information Science, and a Ph.D. in Geography.
Teaching responsibilities include introductory undergraduate core science courses, as well as advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. Teaching assignment is two courses per semester during the 9-month academic year.
PhD in Geography or closely related discipline.
