ResponsibilitiesCandidates will be expected to maintain a rigorous grant writing and research program, teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in their program, train doctoral students, and participate in university governance commensurate with rank.
Qualifications- Ph.D. in Reading Education, Special Education, or related field
- Demonstrated evidence of rigorous research productivity
- Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and training
- Demonstrated commitment to continued grant‑funded research and scholarly productivity
- Demonstrated commitment to and evidence of developing doctoral students
- Demonstrated evidence of (or potential for) an externally funded, independent research program
- A quality program of research related to reading and/or writing development, assessment, instruction, intervention, or related topic areas (emerging at the assistant rank, established at the associate rank)
- Teaching experience in preschool through grade 12 settings
The School of Teacher Education (STE) in the Anne Spencer Daves College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences (Anne’s College) and the Florida Center for Reading Research (FCRR) at the Florida State University invite applications for a tenured or tenure‑track faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The position is expected to start in Fall 2026; however, the start date is negotiable.
The position will involve teaching, research, and service within STE, and will include a joint appointment with FCRR. The position carries a reduced teaching assignment with correspondingly high expectations for research productivity.
The successful candidate will have a tenure home in one of two majors within STE:
Reading Education or Special Education. These majors work closely together in STE and FCRR, so a collaborative orientation is desired. The candidate will be expected to maintain a rigorous grant writing and research program, including competitive externally funded research grants. The candidate will also teach undergraduate, masters, and/or doctoral level classes within their program, and train doctoral students through active participation in their research program.
The candidate will also be expected to participate in university governance in the department, college, and FCRR, at a level that is commensurate with their rank.
The candidate will join an interdisciplinary group of colleagues and students at STE, Anne’s College, and FCRR. Drawing from multiple disciplines, FCRR investigates all aspects of reading and reading‑related skills across the lifespan. Through rigorous and robust research, innovation, and engagement, FCRR advances the science of reading to improve learning and achievement from birth through adulthood. Meanwhile, Anne’s College advances society and enriches our community through the support of education as a public good, while enhancing the quality of life of all our students, faculty and staff.
