Responsibilities

Instructors must engage students in reflective exercises and discussions to help them identify the best career and professional option. This position requires creating and implementing active and engaging lessons that infuse the course learning objectives. More specifically, candidates should be able to teach the following:

  • IHS 1100 Freshman Seminar – Focus:
    Health Professions
  • IHS 2121 Sophomore Seminar – Focus:
    Patient-Centered Care, Populations
  • IHS 3122 Augmented Seminar – Focus:
    This course is designed for transfer students or those adding the major after their Sophomore year, combining IHS 1100 and IHS 2121 modules.

Office hours availability, as well as detailed and fast (5 - 7 days) assignment feedback are expected. Attendance at biweekly meetings throughout the semester for professional training is required.

Qualifications
  • Individuals with an academic graduate degree (e.g. M.A., M.S., M.S.W., M.P.H.) from an accredited institution in public health, behavioral science, life sciences, social work, social science, or related field with professional (applied and research) experiences in health care related areas are encouraged to apply. Graduate students currently pursuing a doctoral degree in these areas with professional (research and applied) experiences in healthcare related areas are also encouraged to apply.
  • This position requires a passion and ability to teach undergraduate students about health careers, teach and evaluate the basics of scientific writing, the values of patient-centered care, and how to develop a health-related Career Portfolio.
  • Ability to create hands-on activities, incorporating the students’ field experiences to reflections are a must.
  • The successful candidate must have classroom teaching experience, preferably at a college level with a demonstrated track record of effective teaching.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the career options available in the healthcare field and ability to mentor and advise students is a must.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • The successful candidate will need to possess organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as promote an environment that is student-centered and value mutual respect, teamwork, and open communication for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Expertise using Canvas or equivalent software to engage students in active learning, ensuring that learning objectives are met, is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A doctoral degree or highest-level terminal degree from an accredited institution in public health, behavioral science, life sciences, social work, social science, education or related field with professional (applied and research) experiences in health care-related areas.
  • Experience teaching about healthcare careers and professions is ideal.
